Will 2020 Democrats Help Trump by Destroying Each Other?
We’re now well under a year away from the Iowa caucuses, and an unusually — perhaps uniquely — large Democratic field is forming to compete for the opportunity to face Donald J. Trump in 2020. It is highly appropriate that before the festivities intensify, multiple voice are being raised to remember the wolf at the door before engaging in any intramural fisticuffs.
Failed former President Barack Obama could once again be in the spotlight on an election year, as it’s expected that his highly anticipated memoir will drop during the height of the 2020 presidential election, according to The New York Post.
“Publisher Penguin Random House started alerting foreign partners and others about the status of Obama’s book on Tuesday,” the Post reported.
The former commander-in-chief is also reportedly writing the book by himself, by hand on legal pads, which is the way he wrote his White House speeches and his first best-selling book, “Dreams from My Father.”
Obama’s upcoming book is part of a book deal that both he and former first lady Michelle Obama signed in 2017, which is expected to yield the former president the largest advance of any ex-president in history.
Former President Bill Clinton is thought to currently hold that honor with a $15 million advance for “My Life.”
Michelle Obama’s part of the book deal resulted in her 2018 best-seller which became one of the most popular political memoirs in history, according to the Post, selling 10 million copies.
However, the former president’s potential 2020 bombshell book could put Democrats in a precarious position, considering that Obama has made it clear he has no plans to endorse a candidate, including his former VP, Joe Biden.
“A 2020 book launch could thrust Obama back into the spotlight just as Democratic voters are choosing a presidential nominee, prompting fresh discussion of his legacy and putting him on the spot about the candidates hoping to build on it,” the Post reported.
“The publisher did not give its partners any updates on a launch date, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
The person was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.”
While Democrats have a plethora of candidates to choose from, polls show that Obama is still the most popular Democrat in the country, making his opinion, a powerful one.
