Top Clinton Consultant BEGS Democrats To ABANDON the Impeachment Catastrophe

"It's hard for me to see that impeachment is anything but a very problematic issue for the party!" - Doug Shoen

Trump is now polling better than before Democrats started the impeachment and support for impeachment is sliding fast. Independents, Moderates and Democrat Swing voters are tiring quickly. By any political barometer, it is clear that the Democrats are FAR from where they wanted to be after Schiff concluded his hearings.

Some of the brightest minds in the Democrat Universe have begun to say that Pelosi would be very wise to abandon the impeachment ship, and be satisfied with a censure instead.

Doug Shoen, former top Democrat consultant and pollster for Bill Clinton, is one of those leading that crusade. Shoen made the argument on Fox Nation’s “Deep Dive.” that Pelosi should abandon impeachment and instead be satisfied for a vote to publicly reprimand the president.

“I am praying for censure. It can turn what could be a loss into a certain victory,” Shoen stated. “While the Democratic electorate is almost unanimously in favor of impeachment, swing voters in swing states… are decidedly mixed, if not negative.”

“And given that states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Florida — ones the Democrats have to win in some combination to win the presidential election, it’s hard for me to see that impeachment is anything but a very problematic issue for the party,” he argued.

Schoen explained, as many have been doing, that the impeachment is sucking the air out of coverage and messaging of the Democrat Primary.

I also think that we Democrats are losing a huge opportunity because on issues like climate change and  health care, we have an advantage. We won the midterm elections in 2018 because of the utilization and in part of those issues. And to not take advantage of what people care about, which is real-world day to day problems of our quality of life, and instead, just keep focusing on impeachment.”

Although she walked back the comments after they went viral, Michigan Congresswoman Brenda Lawrence also said that it would be wise for Democrats to censure President Trump instead of impeaching him.

“We are so close to an election. I will tell you, sitting here knowing how divided this country is, I don’t see the value of taking him out of office. But I do see the value of putting down a marker saying his behavior is not acceptable,” Lawrence said.

Polling has shown that both independents and Democrats have started to lose interest in impeachment.

Fifty percent of independents questioned in a new NPR/PBS/Marist poll that was conducted Nov. 11-15 said that they do not support impeaching and removing Trump from office, with just 42 percent backing such a move. This number is terrifying many Democrats, especially House members in Trump districts.

As well, a Gallup poll that was conducted the first two weeks of November indicated that only 45 percent of independent voters supported impeaching and removing the president and a majority 53 percent opposing the move. That’s a switch from October when the previous Gallup survey put the split at 53-44 percent.

A slew of recent polls show Trump leading the ALL of the top Democratic candidates by between 2 and 4 percentage points. That is significant because Trump trailed those same Democrats in the same polls conducted as recently as June, with some showing as much as an 8-point shift.

The Democrats have tied their own hands. Schiff and Nadler are not intellectual enough to consider looking at what February looks like, but Pelosi is.

As it stands, if House Democrats vote to send the impeachment to the House, they lose two ways. Of course, the Republican controlled Senate is not likely to vote to Remove Trump. But the Democrats were hoping to be in a spot where they gained Republican support for a house vote, and it looks like instead they lost Democrats.

It is possible that over Thanksgiving, Pelosi actually does abandon ship. She could do that a number of ways.

But no matter what the outcome in January, what happens in February? The Democrats have thrown everything at the President that they can, and impeachment is the kitchen sink. Nothing after that compares.

They can attack his tweets. But nothing at all will be as significant as an impeachment, and it will be failed, one way or another, and quickly sliding into the past.

Meanwhile, the economy rolls forward….

It’s the economy stupid!

Keep the popcorn coming!
