Three Young Friends See Elderly Woman Eating Alone, Here’s What They Did Next
"I think it was a God thing. I think God sent me there," she said.
We live in a world where we see a lot of mistreatment of the elderly, and it is so nice to see the true kindness, that in actuality, happens often. Three friends went to eat, and they noticed a little old lady silently eating alone. What happened next went viral.
While the incident happened in April, the post and story are still garnering attention, with almost 300k likes, 75k shares and over 27k comments. So let’s continue to share this random act of kindness! You share this story as well!
Jamario Howard, JaMychol Baker and Tae Knight, were waiting for their food at a restaurant in Oxford, Alabama. They noticed 80 year old Eleanor Baker dining by herself. Eleanor is a widow and lives with her dog. While she has a big family, they mostly live out of town, so she was alone the night she went to the restaurant.
“My exact thought was, ‘Dang I’d hate to have to eat alone,'” Howard wrote on Facebook. “So after thinking about it a minute I walked over to her and asked if i could sit with her.”
After some conversation, Howard learned that it was Widow Baker’s Anniversary. The 60th!
“After a while of talking she told me she lost her husband and that tomorrow would have been their 60th anniversary,” Howard wrote. “I instantly gave my condolences and asked her to come eat with us, which she was excited to do.”
What a special thing to do. So important, that little word; Kindness.
Howard went on to explain:
“The point in this is always be kind and be nice to people. You never know what they are going through. This woman changed my outlook on life and how i look at other people. Everyone has a story so do not judge! And people i can’t stress this enough. GO SEE YOUR MOM AND YOUR GRANDPARENTS. They miss you!!”
Widow Baker said her visit was especially divine.
“I think it was a God thing. I think God sent me there,” she said.

Those 20-somethings enjoyed her company as much as she enjoyed theirs.
“‘Cause when we left there, that’s all we talked about,” said Tae Knight.
“When you make that kind of connection with somebody, it’s hard to let it go,” said JaMychol Baker.
“And it was really just a nice, pleasant evening,” said Eleanor.
The elderly widow touched the young men’s hearts. They touched thousands of others by sharing their story of kindness. It was a win, win, win!
I was very close to my grandmother.
My grandmother lost her older brother, Marcus, when he was 16 and she was 14. While, obviously, I never met him, she had so many stories. By the time I became an adult, I knew him well.
He was an incredible baseball player. Like few had ever seen. He was good to the heart. Too good, she always said, for this world.
Church and teaching God’s Word were priority to him.

Most especially, he love the elderly. He hugged every little old lady at church services, without ever a miss. He went and helped them at their homes when in need, and often when that need was just a visit. He was well known in his small Oklahoma community for how he treated the elderly.
So as a young man, I made it my goal to be just like him, a Great Uncle I never met.
So the elderly, and as well teaching God’s Word, have been a priority in my life. Always. I cannot count how many times i have been in a rest home to sing and visit. I never miss getting my hugs from the elderly at church. So it is with tears in my eyes that I write this article today.
It is so important. Be kind to the older folks. Go walk through a rest home. Now! Get up, leave my article and go do it! You will reap the benefits, and so will those you speak to. You don’t have to know them. They will say ‘hello’ first, I guarantee it!!!!
Go. Now. Get up off you butt and do it! Kindness!
