TAKE THAT John Kasich! New Ohio Governor DeWine Signs Law Banning Abortion After HEARTBEAT Is Detected
One of the last actions of former Ohio Governor John Kasich was to veto the heartbeat bill, and the new Governor Mike DeWine signed just it. The bill banning abortions in the presence of a fetal heartbeat passed the House with a 56-39 vote, shortly after which the state Senate voted 18-13 for the bill. Take THAT John Kasich!
During the campaign for governor, DeWine had promised he would sign a heartbeat bill.
Republican state Rep. Candice Keller called the legislation “the most compassionate bill we’ve ever passed.”
“This is not a Democratic or Republican issue,” said Keller. The Rep. is a Middletown Republican who is the executive director of an anti-abortion crisis pregnancy center.
“This is not a religious issue. This is an issue of humanity and morality.”
Ohio will be the seventh state to enact a heartbeat abortion ban law and several others are considering such legislation.
Physicians could face fines of up to $20,000 if they violate the law. A heartbeat usually becomes detectable between six and nine weeks in pregnancy, sometimes sooner.
Once law, it will be the most restrictive abortion measure in Ohio since the procedure was legalized 46 years ago by the landmark U.S. Supreme Court ruling, Roe versus Wade.
The heartbeat bill would make it a felony for physicians or anyone to perform abortions once a fetal heartbeat can be detected, which is usually around six weeks gestation before some women even know they’re pregnant.
It allows for abortions if there is a medical emergency but doesn’t provide exceptions in cases of rape or incest.
Pro-life groups applauded the bill’s passage.

“Gov. Mike DeWine is the strongest pro-life governor in the nation. With a stroke of a pen, he’s saved countless lives in the state of Ohio,” Citizens for Community Values President Aaron Baer said in a statement. Both sides of the abortion issue believe it will immediately face a constitutional challenge in federal court.
Arkansas, North Dakota, Iowa, Mississippi and Kentucky have proposed bills or enacted laws outlawing abortion in the presence of a fetal heartbeat. Many of the abortion bans, however, have remained ineffective following court orders prohibiting enforcement.
(To give him some credit, while former Governor Kasich vetoed similar heartbeat bills in 2016 and 2018, he did sign into law a ban on abortions after 20 weeks gestation. He felt the bill, and it would, go to court. You fight anyway Kasich! You do the right thing! Baby steps you ignoramus!)
This is personal to me folks!
I was born in 1968 before Roe Vs Wade. I was an unwanted pregnancy but I was adopted.
Had I been aborted, it would not have just been an unwanted fetus.
A 50 year life as a good friend to people in all 50 states.
A son, grandson, brother, cousin, nephew and most important, the best uncle in the world to three precious little girls…would have been aborted.
I AM A LIFE!
On February 7, 2019, my friend Briscoe Cain, a member of the Texas House of Representatives, introduced a fetal heartbeat bill entitled the Texas Heartbeat Bill.
The bill is joint authored by Representatives Phil King, Dan Flynn, Tan Parker, and Rick Miller.
Let’s get er done Texas!
