BREAKING! Jeff Sessions Begins Investigation Into Obama and FISA Spying Abuse!
Attorney General Jeff Sessions declared on Tuesday that the inspector general of the Department of Justice will investigate Obama abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).
“Yes, it will be investigated,” Sessions told reporters at the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, which oversees FISA warrants. He said looking into any abuses is the “appropriate thing” to do.
Earlier this month, Sessions had mentioned in a Fox News interview that there would be an investigation.
He referenced Horowitz’s work regarding allegations of FBI and Justice Department abuse more broadly in response to a follow-up question from Maria Bartiromo.
“Let me tell you, every FISA warrant based on facts submitted to that court have to be accurate. That will be investigated and looked at. We are not going to participate at the Department of Justice in providing anything less than the proper disclosure to the court before they issue a FISA warrant. Other than that, I’m not going to talk about the details of it. But I tell you we’re not going to allow that to happen.”
Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee released a memo in February detailing the DOJ and FBI’s surveillance of the Trump campaign.
The memo on the same issue by the Democrats was released Monday, and seems to only back up the Nunez memo.
Fox News reports:
Sean Hannity said all of the suspicions of the right in regard to the government obtaining a surveillance warrant on former Trump adviser Carter Page were “corroborated” by the Democrats’ memo.
“Everything from a year ago that we have told you about… has been corroborated by the Democrats,” Hannity said.
He added that ranking House Intelligence Committee Democrat Adam Schiff of California promised his caucus’ memo would challenge several aspects of the Nunes memo.
“Facts are facts,” Hannity said. He added that Schiff’s memo instead confirmed that the “completely unverified Hillary-Clinton-bought-and-paid-for Russia dossier” was used in the application for a warrant to spy on Page.
He said the fact the Democrats’ case on the matter is crumbling is the reason the mainstream media has gone “radio silent” on the issue.
“They know it proves all of the key findings and facts of the Republican memo,” Hannity said.
Hannity went on to examine the new Schiff memo line-by-line on air.
The memo released on Friday by the House Intelligence Committee Democrats fails to live up to its key claims.
This is despite all the hype and breathless commentary by Democrat cheerleaders in the media. In fact, it did the entire opposite:
- Provides no information to disprove the Republican claim that the Department of Justice and the FBI relied heavily on the phony Steele Trump-Russia “dossier” to obtain the first of four FISA search warrants against Trump volunteer, Carter Page.
- Fails to establish that DoJ and the FBI properly informed the FISA court that the fake Steele dossier had been commissioned and paid for by the Hillary Clinton campaign.
- Fails to counter the GOP claim that FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe admitted to the House Intelligence committee during his closed-door testimony on December 19, 2017 that without the dossier, the government never could have obtained a FISA court warrant to spy on U.S. citizen Carter Page.
And yet, the Democrats claim they accomplished all three in their 10 page counter-memo. They do so by throwing sand in the eyes of the American people. They misrepresent the facts and introducing alternate facts in an effort at misdirection.
Rep. Trey Gowdy, one of the authors of the FISA abuse memo, responded to his fellow House Intelligence Committee member, Rep. Adam Schiff’s concerns about the content of the memo.
Gowdy said that political documents were passed off as intelligence. It was done to obtain a surveillance warrant on a member of the Trump campaign:
“I get that Adam Schiff and others are worried about what is not in my memo. I wish that they were equally concerned about what’s not in the FISA application.”
President Donald Trump slammed the Schiff memo on Twitter, writing:
“The Democrat memo response on government surveillance abuses is a total political and legal BUST. Just confirms all of the terrible things that were done. SO ILLEGAL!”
The Justice Department is also currently examining how investigations were handled at the department and the FBI in advance of the 2016 presidential election. This includes, notably, the Hillary Clinton email server probe.
