Schiff Silences Republicans During Impeachment Proceedings – Accuses President Trump Of Twitter Intimidation

I have been watching the proceedings today since early this morning. One thing I can say with confidence is that Adam Schiff is acting like a fascist jerk. No big surprise there. Things have been very tense as House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) repeatedly shut down GOP Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) citing House procedure as an astonished Ranking Member Devin Nunes (R-CA) accused him of “gagging” the lawmaker. Not only that but because Trump tweeted during Marie Yovanovitch’s testimony, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, according to Schiff Trump is now guilty of intimidating a witness. A nice feat as this is supposed to be a political hearing, not a legal proceeding.

Let’s start with Stefanik who was treated shamefully by Schiff. “This is the fifth time you have interrupted a duly-elected member of Congress,” Stefanik told Schiff, who repeatedly told her she was “not recognized” to speak. Ostensibly this is because Stefanik repeatedly got into it with Schiff during the first hearing. She’s good… too good for Schiff to allow routine questioning of his ridiculous witnesses.

From Fox News:

“The moment began when Nunes, as he questioned Yovanovitch, gave the remainder of his allotted time to Stefanik, who had sparred multiple times with Schiff on both Friday and during Wednesday’s first nationally televised hearing.

“But as Stefanik spoke, Schiff slammed down the gavel: “The gentlewoman will suspend.”

“What is the interruption for now,” she shot back.

“What followed was a back and forth between Nunes and Schiff as to whether the Republican could offer his time to a fellow member of Congress, rather than minority counsel. Stefanik repeatedly tried to speak, only for Schiff to bang his gavel again.

“You’re gagging the member from New York?” Nunes laughed at one point.

“The explosive moment came during the questioning of Marie Yovanovitch, the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine as part of the House’s impeachment inquiry into the circumstances surrounding President Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.”

Then we come to Trump’s tweets and Schiff’s accusation of intimidation – which they aren’t.

More from Fox News:

“The afternoon session came on the back of a similarly tense morning session, where Yovanovitch pointed her finger at Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani while detailing her sudden removal from her diplomatic post, as the president fired back in realtime and said every place she worked “turned bad.”

“Trump’s comments ignited an outcry from Democrats: Schiff read Trump’s anti-Yovanovitch tweet during the hearing, and called it “witness intimidation.”

“Yovanovitch told lawmakers, regarding the tweet: “It’s very intimidating.”‘

First off, if Yovanovitch is so easily intimidated she should never have been an ambassador. Schiff was way out of line getting in the middle of the tweet-fest and egging it on as well. She would not have known about Trump’s tweet if Schiff hadn’t brought it to her attention.

And Brett Baier, who is a favorite of mine, stepped in it legally as far as I’m concerned by saying this: “This whole hearing turned on a dime when the president tweeted about her real time. And during the questioning Adam Schiff stopped the Democratic questioning to read the president’s tweet to her and get her response. That enabled Schiff to then characterize that tweet as intimidating the witness or tampering with the witness, which is a crime. Adding essentially an article of impeachment real time as this hearing is going on. That changed this entire dynamic of this first part of this hearing and Republicans now are going to have to take the rest of this hearing to probably try to clean that up.”

Trump may have insulted or questioned her but he did not materially tamper with a witness or commit a crime here. Knock it off already. And no one is mentioning how Schiff is leading the witness if you want to take that route. I think we have officially reached peak stupid in all this.

“Everywhere Marie Yovanovitch went turned bad. She started off in Somalia, how did that go? Then fast forward to Ukraine, where the new Ukrainian President spoke unfavorably about her in my second phone call with him,” Trump said in a statement posted on Twitter.

“It is a U.S. President’s absolute right to appoint ambassadors. They call it ‘serving at the pleasure of the President.’ The U.S. now has a very strong and powerful foreign policy, much different than proceeding administrations. It is called, quite simply, America First! With all of that, however, I have done FAR more for Ukraine than O.”

The only witness tampering I see is on Schiff’s part. And this not allowing Republicans to question the so-called witness because Schiff doesn’t like them is just insulting.

Yovanovitch should not even be testifying as she did not have anything to do with the calls or the aid that was proferred. The Democrats third witness up there talked about how bad she feels because mean ole Trump fired and smeared her. Give me a freaking break already.

Just so you can read for yourself how unfair Schiff is being to the Republicans here, here is the exchange between Schiff, Nunes, and Stefanik:

Nunes: I know Ms. Stefanik you had a few quick questions for the ambassador. I yield to you, Ms. Stefanik.

Stefanik: Thank you, Mr. Nunes. Ambassador Yovanovitch–

Schiff: The gentlewoman will suspend. The gentlewoman will suspend.

Stefanik: What is the interruption for this time?

Schiff: The gentlewoman will suspend, you’re not recognized. Mr. Nunes–

Nunes: I just recognized Ms. Stefanik.

Schiff: Under the House Res. 660 you are not allowed to yield time except to counsel.

Stefanik: The ranking member to another member of Congress.

Schiff: Nope, nope. That is not accurate.

Nunes: You’re gagging the gentlewoman from New York?

Stefank: That is accurate. Ambassador Yovanovitch I want to thank you for being here today–

Schiff: The gentlewoman will suspend, you’re not recognized.

Stefanik: This is the fifth time that you have elected members of Congress, duly-elected members of Congress–

Schiff: The gentlewoman will suspend.

Nunes: Mr. Chair, we control the time and customary to this committee, whoever controls the time can yield to whoever they wish. If we have members of Congress who have a few questions, it seems appropriate that we would let Ms. Stefanik ask her question.

Schiff: Mr. Nunes, you or minority counsel are recognized.

Stefanik tweeted out a video clip of the incident, writing: “Once again, Adam Schiff flat out REFUSES to let duly elected Members of Congress ask questions to the witness, simply because we are Republicans. His behavior is unacceptable and he continues to abuse his Chairmanship.”

Earlier she tweeted: “How many times can Adam Schiff say “the Gentlewoman is NOT recognized”? He clearly has NO interest in letting Republicans have any say in the impeachment hearings. Watch him interrupt us multiple times and refuse to yield for our parliamentary questions”

This whole shame of a proceeding is a farce. If anything, Americans are going to be even more in Trump’s corner after all this nonsense is done. It’s just mind-blowingly dumb.
