Rashida Tlaib Calls For Boycott of Bill Maher Show For Speaking the Truth About The Squad and Israel

Rep. Rashida Tlaib is hopping mad that Bill Maher called out the historical ignorance of the anti-Israeli BDS movement, and she wants liberals to boycott his show. She turned her guns on HBO’s “Real Time” host Bill Maher for daring to criticize the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement as a hateful anti-Israel political sentiment with little or no goal beyond the destruction of the Jewish state.

Tlaib encouraged followers to boycott Maher; saying; “Maybe folks should boycott his show,” raged Tlaib on Twitter. “I am tired of folks discrediting a form of speech that is centered on equality and freedom. ” “This is exactly how they tried to discredit & stop the boycott to stand up against the apartheid in S. Africa,” Tlaib added. “It didn’t work then and it won’t now.”

Sadly for Tlaib, even most Democrats aren’t stupid enough to support such an extreme fringe position on Israel. She’s losing and she knows it so she’s lashing out desperately. And it could be because Maher’s polemic was so devastating because it revealed how ignorant and irrational the BDS movement is.

The comments from Tlaib came just days after Israel abruptly announced that it would bar Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) from entering the country during their upcoming trip overseas.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the move, citing Israeli law prohibiting entry into the country for individuals who support a boycott of Israel.

Omar and Tlaib, who became the first Muslim women sworn into Congress in January, have been outspoken critics of Israel during their time in office. The two have also supported the boycott, divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, voting against a congressional resolution to condemn it earlier this year.

Maher voiced strong criticism of the BDS movement on HBO’s “Real Time,” calling it a “a bullshit purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class.”

“It’s predicated on this notion, I think — it’s very shallow thinking — that the Jews in Israel, mostly white, and the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied,” he said.

Maher later pointed to controversial statements Omar has made in the past about Israel, saying that he could see why the lawmakers wouldn’t receive a “hero’s welcome.”

“Congresswoman Omar has said things like ‘It’s all about the Benjamins,’ ‘Israel has hypnotized the world,’ ‘May Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel,’ ” Maher said. “She apologized for it, but it’s out there: Jews control the world, control the money,” he said, adding of the lawmakers, “I can see why they don’t get a hero’s welcome.”

Maher ultimately understood the bans imposed by Israel against Omar and Tlaib given their anti-Semitic pasts.

“It’s predicated on this notion, I think, that the Jews in Israel are mostly white, the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong,” he continued. “As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied. Forget about the intifadas and the suicide bombings and the rockets and how many wars.”

“Let me read Omar Barghouti, one of the co-founders of the movement,” Maher went on. “His quote: ‘No rational Palestinian … would ever accept a Jewish state in Palestine.’ So that’s where that comes from, this movement, someone who doesn’t even want a Jewish state at all.”

“Somehow this side never gets presented in the American media,” he observed. “I think it’s very odd.”

Tlaib herself has publicly stated that Israel should not exist and favors a “one-state solution” in which Israel would be replaced by an Arab-majority state.

Though Rep. Rashida Tlaib has cast herself as the victim in this whole affair, there is speculation that her planned trip to Israel was really just a stunt on her part, given that Israel still granted her a pass to visit her grandmother in the West Bank on humanitarian grounds, which she subsequently turned down.

“Silencing me & treating me like a criminal is not what she wants for me,” said Tlaib. “It would kill a piece of me. I have decided that visiting my grandmother under these oppressive conditions stands against everything I believe in — fighting against racism, oppression & injustice.”
