PSA Says Drunk Couple Hooked Up- But Only SHE Couldn’t Consent?

Scrolling through my Facebook feed, I came across this photo posted by my friend Steve. His caption read ‘So if they’re both drunk and they both decide to have sex, the guy is a rapist? This is an actual PSA poster being displayed at colleges… Please explain why a drunk guy is able to consent and thus is a rapist but a drunk girl cannot consent? Absolutely absurd.’

I could not agree more.

What the hell kind of message is this? That women have the absolute right to say rape after a drunken night? That if you are drunk, you cannot consent to sex? That a woman is the one who controls all consent involving sexual activity?

What about the GUY? Couldn’t he have been raped, by this same logic of both being drunk and unable to consent? Why is he the bad one? Why does he get to carry a scarlet letter the rest of his life and register as a sex offender?

By the way, what about this scenario: two men are out, get wasted, and go home together. What, is there a coin toss to see who gets the rape charges? Be real.

This is a despicable mess. Why any college would allow this bullsh*t to be plastered all over their campus is a mystery to me.

Think of the damage this does to women. It basically teaches, simultaneously, that we are to have a victim mentality while having control of men. What the hell? I am no one’s victim, and I sure as hell don’t want my daughter feeling that way. I certainly don’t want it subliminally messaged to her via PSA announcements. She definitely doesn’t need to feel like she gets to control the opposite sex. This message is so convoluted it is disgusting.

The damage to men is equally horrifying. It makes you afraid to go on a date, for fear you may over indulge and perhaps go home with a woman – then be faced with a criminal history to haunt you the rest of your life. No, thanks. This will do wonders for anyone’s dating life, wouldn’t you say?

Please, if you have college age kids, ask them what they see at school. Talk to them about how this PSA really affects them. Have an open dialogue, and please, don’t let this hogwash shape the minds of our kids.
