Four people were murdered in London, England and numerous others were severely injured in a terrorist attack. The attacker plowed through a crowd of people with their car on the streets outside of the House of Parliament. This attack is similar to others where terrorists have taken trucks and plowed down pedestrians and kept driving. President Trump immediately issued a response when our ally was attacked.
After the attack took place the President was briefed by his staff and he immediately called British Prime Minister Theresa May who was recently elected. The President offered his full support to her in any investigation they will be undertaking.
White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer also immediately responded after the attack saying,
“We obviously condemn today’s attack in Westminster. We applaud the quick response that the British police and their first responders made to the situation and the victims in this are in our thoughts and our prayers.”
The President found out about the attack just prior to entering a Women in Healthcare panel at 11:30 AM in the Roosevelt Room of the White House. Because of the briefing on the attack he was half an hour late to it which he explained to the press saying,
“I’m sorry we’re just getting an update on London.”
“The city of London and her majesty’s government have the full support of the U.S. government in responding to the attack and bringing those to justice that are responsible. We are continuing to monitor the situation we are in touch with officials in the British government.”
No updates yet have been provided. The motivation behind the attack remains unknown as does the status of the perpetrator. Spicer refused to comment on any investigation because any such one was still in its preliminary stages. This attack is a potent reminder we are lucky that it wasn’t us this time.
We are all susceptible to crime and terrorism like this especially in a western democracy. It is always important to remain vigilant and this is a sad reminder of that. All of the victims and their families are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. London will heal eventually has it always does and get the justice they deserve.
