President Donald J. Trump Orders All Devices That Turn Legal Weapons Into ‘Machine Guns’ Banned
President Trump has surprised everyone by ordering Attorney General Jeff Sessions to get regulations rolling to put in place a ban on all devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns… i.e. bump stocks.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders says this has already been done and they are moving forward.
First off, wtf?
Second, this strikes me as throwing a bone to the left. Bump stocks were not involved in the Florida shooting. Scroll down for first-hand video
They were in the Las Vegas shooting. Second, I consider this an unconstitutional move and in fact, it should have to go through Congress, but instead the ATF will ban them. It’s a gesture. Trump also called for more stringent background checks and I can agree on that if they include those under psychiatric care and on meds, but I cringe even on that.
Bump stocks are gun accessories that are used to increase the speed at which the trigger can be pressed on a rifle. Frankly, in my humble opinion, they make next to no difference in the number of people killed by lunatics. Murderous demons will always find a way. I understand needing to appear to do something in the wake of mass murder, but this is going in the wrong direction as far as I’m concerned. Plus, the technology to 3D print bump stocks already exists, so you are not going to stop someone who wants one.

Here is the full statement on it from President Trump:
“After the deadly mass murder in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 1, 2017,” it read, “I asked my Administration to fully review how the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives regulates bump fire stocks and similar devices.”
“Although the Obama Administration repeatedly concluded that particular bump stock type devices were lawful to purchase and possess,” the statement continued, “I sought further clarification of the law restricting fully automatic machine guns.”
“Accordingly, following established legal protocols,” it continued, “the Department of Justice started the process of promulgating a Federal regulation interpreting the definition of “machinegun” under Federal law to clarify whether certain bump stock type devices should be illegal. The Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was published in the “Federal Register” on December 26, 2017. Public comment concluded on January 25, 2018, with the Department of Justice receiving over 100,000 comments.”
“Today, I am directing the Department of Justice to dedicate all available resources to complete the review of the comments received,” Trump wrote, “and, as expeditiously as possible, to propose for notice and comment a rule banning all devices that turn legal pons into machine guns.”
“Although I desire swift and decisive action,” he added, “I remain committed to the rule of law and to the procedures the law prescribes. Doing this the right way will ensure that the resulting regulation is workable and effective and leaves no loopholes for criminals to exploit. I would ask that you keep me regularly apprised of your progress.”
I’m not sure positioning yourself to be more anti-gun than Obama is a good move here. Just sayin’.
Whether we are Republican or Democrat, we must now focus on strengthening Background Checks!

The Department of Justice announced that they were studying the issue of a ban in December. “Possessing firearm parts that are used exclusively in converting a weapon into a machine gun is illegal, except for certain limited circumstances,” Sessions said. “Today we begin the process of determining whether or not bump stocks are covered by this prohibition.” Sarah Huckabee Sanders said, “He ordered the Department of Justice and the ATF to review the regulation of bump stocks,” she said. “My understanding is that review has been completed and movement will take place on that shortly. But the President, when it comes to that, is committed to ensuring those devices … The President doesn’t support the use of those accessories.”
The NRA is getting behind banning bump stocks too and that’s a mistake. Because in the end this isn’t about bump stocks… it’s about banning all guns and stripping us of our Second Amendment rights. To give any ground to this is constitutional suicide. Some are claiming the ATF does not have the authority to ban the accessory on their own, that it has to go through Congress. We’ll see. It would never survive Congress. Trump’s memo ostensibly asks the Department of Justice to ignore their own previously stated opinion that they cannot ban bump stocks and follow through anyhow.
It won’t stop here… it will never stop until the left bans all guns. We shouldn’t help them in any way move towards accomplishing that. Children dying is horrific, but the answer is not more gun control. The answer is arming teachers and providing more armed security at schools.
