Political Correctness: Turning College Kids Into Toddlers
Frat boys stupidly film a racist, vulgar sketch. When it’s released to the public and the government gets involved, not only are the frat boys punished but the entire school must do a 180 into social justice madness. And now a professor has lost his job defending offensive speech.
The privately filmed video is posted below. Make up your own mind whether the school went too far on requiring everyone to change when the blame for stupidity lays with a few idiots too thick to not post racist antics online.
Founded in 1870 and located in Syracuse, New York, the school grew from an educational facility that started in 1831 in Peru before moving north to re-establish itself. Currently they have just under 22,500 students enrolled and tuition and fees will set you back $47,000, not counting books and other expenses.
Alumni include Joe Biden and Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal of Saudi Arabia, who is worth well over $18 billion but was arrested last year on corruption charges.
Chancellor Kent Syverud
Kent Syverud has been the Chancellor and President of Syracuse University since 2014, and he holds degrees in law and economics.
On April 18th, SU’s Chancellor Syverud published a letter to students, faculty and staff about the “extremely troubling and disturbing conduct” from the fraternity Theta Tau. In the letter, the Chancellor called videos of their behavior “offensive,” saying that the videos include “words and behaviors that are extremely racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, sexist and hostile to people with disabilities.”
In response, the school suspended the fraternity and handed their evidence to the Department of Public Safety.
“Syracuse University is committed to fostering a community where all our students feel welcome and are treated with dignity and respect. This behavior is unacceptable and contradicts our moral standards.”
The videos had been shared on a private Facebook group and the frat apologized for the “racist video” that was not meant for public consumption. They said that their frat is not “a house full of bigots” and that the video was a satirical skit and that the views espoused by the men in the videos were that of the characters they were playing.
“Each semester our new members are given the opportunity to write and act out a skit, in order to roast the active brothers. This event was never intended to be centered around racism or hate. This year, one of these brothers is a conservative Republican, and the new members roasted him by playing the part of a racist conservative character. It was a satirical sketch of an uneducated, racist, homophobic, misogynist, sexist, ableist and intolerant person.”
What’s most interesting to me is that the frat thinks that the best way to lambaste a conservative is to portray him as a racist bigot, but let’s keep going. The members probably wasted their time by trying to apologize, because this sort of letter-writing…
“Theta Tau is made up of a diverse group of engineering students from a variety of nationalities, beliefs, and backgrounds, and we strongly believe that racism has no place on a university campus… We are open-minded, scholarly leaders, both in our profession and in the community.”
…will never, ever prevent you from being attacked by the left, even if you consider yourself to be left-wing too. It’s too late. You filmed an extremely idiotic video and now you’re paying for it.
University Reviewing Greek Life
On April 19th, a release in the school paper confirmed that the school would be conducting a “top to bottom review of all our Greek life policies, activities and culture” and would force all student leaders to “participate in implicit bias training.”
Hey, wait — this was about idiots filming racist garbage for their Facebook page. You don’t have to drag everyone else into it.
In all, the school will overhaul their student life to force more “diversity and inclusion” training. As well, there will be a “campus conversation about disability justice” happening tonight that includes “anti-capitalistic” talking points. If you’re a SU student and you’re mad that the campus has gone fully Social Justice, you can thank the no-doubt liberal men at Theta Tau.
Prof. Foretells Downfall
Stuart Card, a former adjunct professor at SU has been caught in the crossfire for claiming that the school has abandoned free speech. Card, an engineer, said that while he lost money teaching he enjoyed “helping students sharpen their critical thinking skills.” Card said that when the video (below) was made public, the school “descended within minutes into an orgy of political correctness.”
“Analysis of the videos or any other evidence was not encouraged; instead, discussion centered on how the revealed existence of the videos made some people feel.”
After watching the video, my feeling is that the students in the frat are a bunch of idiots.
Card said that he knows he is out of step with “current opinion” but that since “coddling promotes weakness” is believes that:
“…reinforcing the current myth that individuals are likely to be damaged by exposure to expressions that they find offensive, and thus require pampering, is a disservice to our students and our profession.”
In response of his comments, which “misalign” with the school’s value, Card has been disqualified from his teaching position. In response, Card wrote an open letter:
“We are tearing down the long proud intellectual traditions of western civilization, which made the United States of America one of the most productive, prosperous, safe, and free countries in history.”
The Video (NSFW)
Watching this video is another reminder that if you’re going to do something profoundly stupid, don’t film it and don’t put it online. Here are some choice quotes:
- “F**k black people.”
- “I solemnly swear to always have hatred in my heart for n****rs, sp*cs, and most importantly… the f**king k**es.”
- “Then he proceeds to bend down and snort cock off their d**ks.”
