The NRA is not Welcome in Dallas
Holding back fake tears, the Democrat acting mayor of Dallas went off-script on Monday to blubber that the NRA should “reconsider” holding their upcoming convention in the city this May.
Dwaine R. Caraway has been keeping the seat warm for Mike Rawlings, and claims to own five guns and keeps one in his car. Tone-deaf to the fact that the NRA are one of the major reasons he has retained the Constitutional right to keep a firearm in his car, Caraway said that the group should “step up to the plate” and work toward banning assault rifles and semi-automatics.
The massacre in Florida was committed with an AR-15. Students who were missing vital knowledge about guns stood frozen, providing an easy target for Nikolas Cruz. But still Caraway blames the gun. They’re already bored with blaming bump-stocks, used by Stephen Paddock for his massacre in Las Vegas. And what about the Virigina Tech murderer who killed 32 people using a handgun? Should handguns be banned too?
Whenever something terrible happens, the left are bent on banning the tool (unless it’s a Truck of Peace, or a Machete of Peace) and refuse to ask deep questions. We know that broken families can damage a child, and Cruz was fatherless. Would fatherlessness be a more meaningful discussion?
First They Came For The Statues
In August of last year, Mayor Rawlings went on record to state that the states commemorating Confederate generals in Dallas’ city parks are all “monuments of propaganda” and wanted to get a big, strong task force in to decide what to do with them. The verdict had already been decided by Rawlings, personally — why even go through the hoops? In September, the city council decided they wanted to remove a statue of Robert E. Lee, and again Rawlings leaned on his fabled task force to find a private donor to pay for its removal and storage. He might want to virtue signal for his communist friends, but he balked a bit at the $450,000 price tag to move the dang thing out of the park.
147th Annual NRA Meeting
Right now, the meetings and exhibitions are scheduled to take place at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center on the weekend spanning May 3-6 in Dallas. They are expecting 80,000 attendees and over 800 exhibitors.
Acting Mayor Caraway told the crowd who had gathered for an unrelated press conference on Monday:
“It is a tough call when you ask the NRA to reconsider coming to Dallas, but it is putting all citizens first, and getting them to come to the table and elected officials to come to the table and to address this madness now.”
“Who needs an AR-15 to go hunting?” he asked.
And I suppose the firearm that Caraways keeps in his car is for hunting deer, correct? But here’s the money quote showing that he speaks out of both sides of his mouth:
“I am all for the protection of the 2nd Amendment, but I am also for protecting the children and a safer Dallas.“
The idea here is that if the second Amendment stays as is, children will die and Dallas will fall to pieces. And it’s up to the NRA and their convention-goers to be the first to lay down their arms.
Last year, Trump was one of the speakers at their event which was then held in Atlanta, Georgia. Kellyanne Conway was also in attendance.
Left-Wing Operatives, Er, Citizen Vandals
After the Valentine’s Day, Ash Wednesday massacre at a high school in Florida left seventeen people dead, a billboard was vandalized in Kentucky to read “Kill the NRA.”
Later the image was posted to the NRA’s official Facebook page with the warning:
“To all American gun owners, this is a wakeup call. They’re coming after us.”
Kentucky has nothing to do with Florida. There’s no reason to believe that this sign has anything to do with the murders committed by the fatherless Nikolas Cruz. But, the left and their well-funded groups love to astroturf their planned efforts to make it look as if the citizenry is rising up against the right. From busing in paid protesters to hiring people to imitate and troll right-wing social media sites, the left still relies on the same tactic. But as we saw during the election, even the bottomless well of funding for these left-wing efforts is no match against free speech supported by the online world.
Over the last year, several spray painted examples of the phrase “Resist 45” have popped up on other billboards in Louisville. I can guarantee you that the phrase “Resist 45” was thought up by a bunch of jerk political scientists trying to figure out what Kids These Days might say. Graffiti vandals who hate Trump would just write “F**K TRUMP,” not “Resist 45.” But, these left wing groups want to delegitimize the election and presidency of Donald J., and “F**K TRUMP” doesn’t hit that sweet spot that plants the idea that Trump was a mistake.
The NRA Wants You To Refuse Victimhood
In a program that has reached more than 100,000 seminar attendees, the NRA advocates for personal awareness and strategies when both men and women are caught in dangerous situations. Their Refuse To Be A Victim® program is designed to “improve personal safety strategies” and its landing page on the NRA website points out that there are over 1.1 million violent crimes reported every year, with over 8.6 million property crimes and approximately 700,000 car thefts annually.
Carjacking has been on the rise in cities including Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee and Baltimore.
