Well folks, our religious freedom keeps slipping further and further away. California is often at the forefront of shoving progressivism down our throats. This time, it’s not enough for the powers that be that we simply stay silent. No, a new law will put you in jail for what you DON’T say.
Nursing home workers that refuse to use the gender pronouns preferred by their patients will not just be fired, they can be fined and jailed for up to a year! Governor Jerry Brown has zero respect for your religious views or your right to exercise them. If you don’t want to see an old man go in the bathroom with granny, too bad. He might feel like a girl today.
So, you may want to think twice about putting grandma in a nursing home in California in light of the new law, recently signed by Governor Brown.
H/T BIZPAC REVIEW
“California can now start jailing people that refuse to use the preferred gender pronouns of nursing home residents after Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill Thursday.
The law’s effect is limited to nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, but mandates that those who “willfully and repeatedly” refuse “to use a transgender resident’s preferred name or pronouns” can be slapped with a $1,000 fine and up to one year in prison, according to the California Heath and Safety code.
Known as the “LGBT Senior Bill Of Rights,” the legislation also requires nursing homes and care facilities to allow residents to use the bathroom of their choice, regardless of biological sex. The bill’s author, state Sen. Scott Weiner, argues that religious views don’t hold weight in public areas.
“Everyone is entitled to their religious view,” Wiener said. “But when you enter the public space, when you are running an institution, you are in a workplace, you are in a civil setting, and you have to follow the law.”
Wiener also released a statement thanking Brown for signing the bill.
“Our LGBT seniors built the modern LGBT community and led the fight for so many of the rights our community takes for granted today. It is our duty to make sure they can age with the dignity and respect they deserve,” Wiener wrote. “I want to thank Governor Brown for joining our coalition in supporting this bill, which will make a real difference in people’s lives. The LGBT Senior Bill of Rights is an important step in our fight to ensure all people are treated equally regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”
To put this new law into perspective, consider that Jerry Brown signed another law last week which limits the prison time for knowingly exposing or infecting another person with HIV to 6 months in prison! A year for calling someone “she” and 6 months for knowingly transmitting a deadly illness. What kind of world are we living in?!
It’s so sad that one of the most beautiful states in our country has been turned into a liberal cesspool where conservatives are shunned and outright hated. It’s not enough that marriage has been redefined and illegal immigrants are overrunning the cities. Now we have to make sure that gender confused people are addressed to their liking, even if it flies in the face of all rationality and your religious beliefs.
Somehow, I doubt this is going to end with nursing homes. Every time I think I’ve heard it all, a liberal surprises me.
