MSNBC Morning Joe: Ocasio-Cortez Doesn’t Know What She Is Talking About
Freshman Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez has only been in office a few weeks, but she has a LOT of liberals and Democrats calling her out for ignorance.
Really, when it comes down to it, she is just honest and open about what she believes.
What she thinks, she says. What she thinks, she does.
This week that honesty helped the state of New York lose an estimated 100,000 total jobs, and $12 Billion in state revenue, when Amazon decided to place their 2nd headquarters in some other state.
Ocasio-Cortez has earned a verbal spanking from NYC mayor DeBlasio, privately by Nancy Pelosi, and very publically by a billboard in Times Square.
She is even earning ridicule on what is typically a more friendly cable news show: MSNBC’s Morning Joe.
Joe Scarborough: “New York City wasn’t handing cash to Amazon. It was an incentive program based on job creation producing tax revenue,” Scarborough said, adding “There isn’t a $3 billion pile of money that can now be spent on subways or education.”
Deutsch: “we are in a dangerous place and if people in the party doesn’t start to speak up against people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who is young and dynamic but does not know what she’s talking about, they’re going to hand the presidency back to Donald Trump.”
Susan Del Percio: “What’s shocking to me is once again she shows how little she understands not just economics but even unemployment. She’s the one who said the reason unemployment is so low is because a lot of people have two jobs. She needs to learn basic things about what it is to be a representative.”
Even ‘sweet little’ Mika Brzezinski ended the pile-on in a nice-but-not-nice manner, saying ” I watch AOC with a lot of hope but I’m cringing, and I would love to give her some advice.”
They are right! While Ocasio-Cortez played ‘hate the corporation’ and was clueless about tax incentives and how they are investments with a big return, NY, and NYC lost a LOT!
- 25,000 jobs, at the headquarters itself, to grow to 40,000 within a few years
- An estimated $4 billion in wages for the citizens of NY
- An estimated $12 billion in returns for a $3 million tax break
- As well as an estimated 60,000 more jobs in construction and other industries that come with such a project
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stated that Ocasio-Cortez got the facts wrong over the money behind the tax breaks.
The Democratic mayor said on Meet the Press: “That $3 billion that would go back in tax incentives was only after we were getting the jobs and getting the revenue.”
He explained that it was not a $3 billion PAYMENT, it was a TAX INCENTIVE. Ocasio-Cortez does not know enough about economics to know the difference.
“If we were willing to give away $3 billion for this deal, we could invest those $3 billion in our district ourselves, if we wanted to. We could hire out more teachers. Or we can fix our subways. We can put a lot of people to work for that money, if we wanted to,”
Chuck Todd of NBC News’ “Meet the Press” asked if the tax breaks offered to Amazon weren’t “money you had over here. And it was going over there.”
DeBlasio said: “And that $3 billion that would go back in tax incentives was only after we were getting the jobs and getting the revenue.”
“There’s no money — right,” de Blasio added.
Ocasio-Cortez is the face of Democrat Socialists who have been indoctrinated with falsehoods and now suffer with misguided beliefs about socialism due in part because of the ideals of youth, a fraudulent education and/or the inability to conceptualize beyond simple rhetoric.
