Rep. Brenda Lawrence (D-MI) first made headlines two days ago saying that she saw no point in impeaching President Trump this close to an election. She said that she was instead in favor of censure. That got out and she must have gotten some heavy-duty pressure from her party. She immediately flip-flopped and proceeded to state that she has always been in favor of impeaching Trump. That sure didn’t take long.
“I was an early supporter for impeachment in 2017,” Lawrence said in a statement. “The House Intelligence Committee followed a very thorough process in holding hearings these past two weeks. The information they revealed confirmed that this President has abused the power of his office, therefore I continue to support impeachment.” Nice waffle there — I sense Pelosi’s intervention here.
From Fox News:
“The Michigan lawmaker added: “However, I am very concerned about Senate Republicans and the fact that they would find this behavior by the President acceptable.”
“For good measure, the statement was circulated in a tweet that declared impeachment proceedings “MUST” continue.
“The double about-face followed her comments on a Sunday radio show, which seemed to mark an initial reversal from her original pro-impeachment stance.
“We are so close to an election,” Lawrence said on host Charlie LeDuff’s Michigan radio program. “I will tell you, sitting here knowing how divided this country is, I don’t see the value of taking him out of office. But I do see the value of putting down a marker saying his behavior is not acceptable.”
“She instead said she wanted to see Trump “censured” for his actions with Ukraine.
“I want it on the record that the House of Representatives did their job and they told this president and any president coming behind him that this is unacceptable behavior and, under our Constitution, we will not allow it,” she said.

“The congresswoman’s quick walk-back hints at possible party pressure after her weekend comments started to generate significant media coverage. Asked by Fox News whether Democratic leadership pushed for the latest statement, an aide said: “Not that I know of.” But the aide suggested the congresswoman still likes the idea of a censure, saying, “What she was trying to say is that because she doesn’t think the Senate will convict, that maybe censure would be a viable option.”
“Those remarks came as polls have shown that independents are souring on the idea of impeaching and removing Trump from office, including in critical battleground states like Wisconsin, even as House Democrats aggressively presented their case against the president over the past two weeks.
“The House Intelligence Committee, which has been leading the charge against Trump in the ongoing inquiry, appears to be finishing up. Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., said Monday they were “preparing a report” for the House Judiciary Committee, which would then decide whether articles of impeachment are warranted.”
Adam Schiff FAILED to convince a Democrat Rep in a D+30 district that @realDonaldTrump should be impeached.

If Pelosi insists on filing articles of impeachment and taking this to the Senate, the Dems are going to have their dirty laundry aired nicely. Many will be called to testify and the Republicans will be allowed to call their own witnesses. Due process will be in place and the left’s corruption over all of this will be exposed. That’s why many think Pelosi won’t let it go that far. Right now, it sure looks like she will though.
Lawrence, a supporter of 2020 presidential candidate Kamala Harris, was obviously sending up a trial balloon for an exit strategy in response to dismal polling for Rep. Adam Schiff’s impeachment hearings. But her own party is staunchly careening toward political suicide and a massive trouncing in the 2020 election. She was ordered to get in line and did so like a good little minion.
I have firmly supported impeachment since early 2017. President Trump has abused the power of office, betrayed the American people, and corrupted our democracy. This behavior is unacceptable and impeachment proceedings MUST continue #ForThePeople #DefendOurDemocracy pic.twitter.com/CxGluVsl8h

Here’s where she was just two days ago – via The Daily Caller:
“You can censure, you don’t have to remove the president. Sitting here, knowing how divided this country is, I don’t see the value of kicking him out of office,” Lawrence told radio host Charlie LeDuff on Sunday.
“I’ll be G-Damned,” LeDuff says. “To hear you say, and you are a Democrat, and you are a liberal-minded person; I know you don’t like Trump for the betterment of all of us, in an election year, it’s unwise to tear him from the chair. Is that how you think?” The host asks Lawrence. “Yeah,” Lawrence responded.
“Hours later Lawrence released a statement saying, “I was an early supporter for impeachment in 2017. The House Intelligence Committee followed a very thorough process in holding hearings these past two weeks. The information they revealed confirmed that this President has abused the power of his office, therefore I continue to support impeachment.” She also mentioned her concern about impeachment moving forward in the Republican-controlled Senate.”

This impeachment farce will not get past the Senate. It’s not going to happen. If it winds up there, the only thing that will happen is the Democrats are going to look worse and worse with each testimony given. They will be cementing a second term for Trump.
Impeachment is incredibly unpopular on both sides of the political spectrum here in the United States for President Trump. But the Dems keep on pushing it because they are desperate. They see removing Trump through impeachment as the only way they can win in 2020 and they are right. It will never work and they are going down in flames over it. Serves them right.
Lawrence won’t be the only leftist to jump ship before this is done. She’s just the first rat that tried to.
