Liberal Journalist Tells Pelosi: Drop ‘Dirty swampy’ Political Impeachment

The truth is that you’re risking the loss of trust from moderates and those in the center-left, like me.

Respected Latino journalist, Cathy Areu, has penned a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi begging her to ‘jump off the “Let’s Impeach President Trump” bandwagon’ because she says ‘It’s just not in the best interest of the Democratic Party or our entire country, actually.’ Areu cites polling that shows ‘Just 24% say they have a lot of trust in how the House impeachment inquiry has been conducted so far.’

Areu pleads her case directly to Pelosi via a published open letter, opening with, ‘consider this open letter from an old friend.’

Here is a portion, the rest of which you can read HERE.

So, given all of these mixed emotions and anger toward the government, my sources, who have served in the last three administrations and other government believe that the Democrats are taking a really big gamble here with this impeachment process.

I understand you have to deal with “the Squad,” and all, and, sure, every political party is guilty of over-reaching. But it’s gotten so obvious that both the Republicans and the Democrats are simply trying to appease the extremes in their parties. It’s exactly what the Democrats are doing right now by trying to impeach Trump.

You’re are “getting the friendly vibration of the extreme side of your party,” one of my government sources eloquently told me. These “vibrations,” he said, is what makes you, Speaker Pelosi, start to think you’re on the right track.

Don’t be fooled by that vibe, warns my source, who has advised presidents on both sides of the aisle (sometimes on Air Force One).

The truth is that you’re risking the loss of trust from moderates and those in the center-left, like me.

Areu goes on to say:

These polls I mentioned earlier in my letter here to you indicate, to many of us in journalism and government, that people are not seeing the impeachment hearings like a court of justice.

They are seeing impeachment as a court of politics. Dirty swampy politics at that.

Areu’s message to Pelosi mirrors that coming from a number of moderate Democrats that believe the impeachment process, that so far has not gone well for Democrats, will lose moderates and independents.

Well known immigration attorney Matthew Kolker Tweeted just today:

I’m not a Trump voter and oppose many (most?) of his policies. That said, anyone with any intellectual honesty can see that this hearing is a sham devoid of any semblance of due process. Go ahead Democrats, vote to impeach. You’ve lost any chance at this independent’s vote.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy pointed out that there are some moderate Democrats on the verge of switching parties over the catastrophe.

“I had a Democrat come to me today and tell me he even questioned about whether he should stay a Democrat or he should re-register. He said this not the party that I know and he said these individuals in the direction that they’re going is totally wrong,”

Even a headline in The New York Times last week, after Pelosi met with her caucus to discuss an impeachment inquiry vote, says it all:

“Democrats Fear Impeachment Is Blurring Their ‘Kitchen Table’ Focus.” After the meeting, a very frustrated Pelosi asked journalists, “Any questions about our legislative agenda?”

There weren’t many, the Times reported.

The impeachment inquiry is sucking the wind out of coverage of Biden, Warren, Buttegeig, and Sanders. They get no coverage.

It was a mistake for Pelosi to agree to walk down this road, and that is why I was salivating for her to do so for months.

They fell for it. Remember Brer Rabbit and Brer Bear? Please don’t throw me in that there brier patch?

I really think the Democrats have stepped in it, and Pelosi has no way out.

Just today, this played out as former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch testified:

Republican Congressman Chris Stewart: “I would now feel compelled to ask you, Madam Ambassador, as you sit here before us, very simply and directly, do you have any information regarding the president of the United States accepting any bribes?”

Yovanovitch: “No.”

Stewart: “Do you have any information regarding any criminal activity that the president of the United States has been involved with at all?”

Yovanovitch: “No.”

Then the American People watched this horrific exchange. Be careful, worse than nails on a chalkboard and Schiff sincerely looks creepy.

I guess the old adage applies: Be careful what you wish for.
