Jussie Smollett Will Not Be Returning to ‘Empire’ For Season Six
Fox Entertainment has released a statement on Tuesday stating that Jussie Smollett will not return to his series “Empire” for Season Six! The statement comes immediately after the news that the series had been renewed for a sixth season. Smollett’s character had been removed from the final two episodes of season five, but Fox had been silent up until now as to whether Smollett would continue when the next season began.
Fox did extend his contract, opening the possibility that he could return, which most assume was Fox trying to keep from offending fans of the show that as well still support Smollett. It is probable that they contract will be ended at some time later, and that Smollett will not ever appear again on the show.
There is still a Federal investigation ongoing into Smollett as well as the City of Chicago suing him for taxpayer costs due to the hoax.
The FBI is looking into a fake letter that included white powder that Smollett mailed previous to the hoax attack.
“By mutual agreement, the studio has negotiated an extension to Jussie Smollett’s option for season six, but at this time there are no plans for the character of Jamal to return to ‘Empire,'” the studio said in a statement that gave no reasoning for the decision.
A representative for Smollett expressed hope that the actor would return to the show at some point in the future.
“We’ve been told that Jussie will not be on ‘Empire’ in the beginning of the season but he appreciates they have extended his contract to keep Jamal’s future open,” the representative said. “Most importantly he is grateful to Fox and ‘Empire’ leadership, cast, crew and fans for their unwavering support.”
Smollett paid two brothers to help him stage a January attack in which he said two masked men beat him, hurled racist and homophobic slurs at him, doused him with a chemical substance and put a rope around his neck.
When the incident first happened, Smollett claimed that he had been attacked, but many items just did not add up. He refused to give police full access to his cell phone. He also, it was discovered, continued to wear the ‘noose’ as a neck tie.
As the weeks went on, there was much speculation that Smollett had perpetrated a hoax.
Police tracked down the two brothers, they were arrested.
Then the whole thing fell apart, The brothers were released, and the CPD began to look at Smollett.
He was arrested, and a grand jury declared enough evidence to go to trial.
Then in a startling turn of events, the prosecutor dropped all charges. Jussie Smollett immediately went on camera and again declared his innocence, and the charges being dropped as proof. The prosecutors office came back at him later in the day saying it was not so.
The Feds are now looking into the prosecutors actions. The brothers are suing Smollett for slander.
What a mess. I still say, that Jussie Smollett would be much better off if he would grow a pair, and just admit he blew it. Whoever is counseling him is doing him a big disservice. There is enough real evidence, already in the public, to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt as to what happened.
To continue crying his big lie, only makes him look worse. He is heading down a road, that will never end well. If he just ‘fessed up’, time would heal this. America LOVES a good redemption story.
I especially blame his so-called friends, who are allowing him to live the lie. They should be the most ashamed. They are not real friends. Real friends tell you the truth, even when it hurts. To allow him to live this lie, is hurtful to him, not helpful!
