ICE Busts Hundreds Of Foreign Student Visa Fraudsters In Fake University Sting Set Up By DHS

Immigration and Customs Enforcement just busted more than 250 so-called students who enrolled in a fake university hoping to cheat the United States’ student visa laws. There were no classes and no learning went on during all of this, so liberals such as Alyssa Milano, Elizabeth Warren, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who are shedding faux tears over all this are just spouting more leftist propaganda.

ICE set up the program to lure in individuals who have sought to take up residency in the country through student visas, without actually studying at a real university and paying tuition. And contrary to what the left would have you believe, this program was originally set up under the Obama administration in 2015. The majority of the people who were busted trying to game student visa rules in order to obtain legal residency have been described as Indian nationals.

From Big League Politics:

“The fake students signed up with “University of Farmington,” a sham Detroit university that advertised itself as a pathway for the foreign nationals to obtain legal residency in the US without actually being a real college student. In reality, the University of Farmington was a creation of ICE from its inception.

“The arrests have been taking place since January. Farmington never offered any college classes in a physical location, not qualifying as an accredited university to those who claimed student status in order to keep a visa.

“Detroit’s ICE office has confirmed that 80% of the fake students busted in the sting have been deported or voluntarily left the country. Another 10% have been ordered by immigration judges to depart. The remaining 10% are currently fighting ongoing cases in the immigration court system.

“Several “recruiters” for the fake school are facing criminal charges for finding people willing to sign up to commit immigration fraud, offering them a chance to get a student visa without being a student.

“Unfortunately, ICE’s success in nabbing hundreds of fake students through the sting reveals the rampant fraud and abuse prevalent within the student visa system. Conservatives have become increasingly skeptical of programs that allow generous access to foreign university students, and an epidemic of fraud from those seeking to bypass immigration law doesn’t speak favorably towards the utility of the foreign student visa program.”

The sting operation was called Paper-Chase. There were all kinds of channels on this one. Recruiters from India, visa fraud and lots of money and no classes to attend. The school had an estimated 600 students, where are the rest of them?

2020 Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, an alumnus of the Obama administration, called it “cruel and appalling.” She added, “These students simply dreamed of getting the high-quality higher education America can offer. ICE deceived and entrapped them, just to deport them.” Yeah, these ‘students’ are about as legit as her Native American heritage.

Alyssa Milano, a fervent opponent of ICE, tweeted, “OH MY GOD. ICE has arrested about 250 students who were enrolled at a fake university set up by ICE to lure in students.” She pities these fake students who are criminals and says ICE is at fault. What a dunce and a tool.

The University of Farmington had no staff, no instructors, no curriculum and no classes but was utilized by undercover Homeland Security agents to identify people involved in immigration fraud, according to federal grand jury indictments that were just unsealed. The Detroit News reported in January 2019 that eight “recruiters” for the university who hailed from India were charged with visa fraud and harboring aliens for profit. Those eight recruiters allegedly made more than $250,000 from the university, in lieu of recruiting students.

The school was staffed with undercover agents and was described online as an “innovative educational program that melds modern instruction techniques with applied occupational experiences.” The university’s website said it offered graduate programs in technology and computer studies. Authorities created a website with an .edu address and social-media pages advertising the university as an accredited institution charging $8,500 per year in tuition, but it had no physical classrooms or campus and was not accredited.

Peter Henning, a law professor at Wayne State University, told The Detroit News in January: “It’s creative, and it’s not entrapment. The government can put out the bait, but it’s up to the defendants to fall for it.”

The bottom line is that this is no different than falsely marrying someone so you can stay in the country. These people were not students and were paying scammers so they could claim residency status. And no, they are not to be pitied… they knew what they were doing was an illegal “pay-to-play” scheme and chose to do it anyway. ICE and DHS should be commended here for doing their jobs and upholding the law.
