Hundreds Protest Rep. Ilhan Omar Outside CAIR Fundraiser In LA – Artist Calls Her Out

U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was confronted by roughly 1,500 protesters in Los Angeles, California outside her Southern California fundraising event for the local chapter of a major advocacy group representing Muslim-Americans. Omar spoke at the event and it was clandestinely caught on video. It was not a warm welcome by any means for the freshman congresswoman.

“Burn the Quran!,” “Ilhan Omar, go to hell!” and “Shame on you, terrorists!” were among some of the messages shouted outside a Woodland Hills Hilton hotel where Omar spoke at a fundraiser for the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) of Greater Los Angeles, according to a report. The town is about 25 miles northwest of downtown L.A. At the event, Omar claimed the protesters were prejudiced against Islam and Muslims.

Unsavory Agents

Hundreds of protesters lined the sidewalk area. They waved Israeli flags and decried recent anti-Semitic remarks by Omar. The atmosphere was a mix of dancing and music mixed with the vitriolic comments against Omar. Many were wearing MAGA hats. At one point, banners, placed by activist Laura Loomer, were unfurled from two balconies, reading “Ilhan Hates Israel” and “CAIR Hates Jews.”

Omar, 37, is from Somalia and came to the U.S. with her family in 1995. She has faced a storm of criticism from pro-Israel politicians and groups after her February tweet that said “It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” in reference to the support that some U.S. lawmakers have offered to Israel.

Both Republicans and Democrats have criticized Omar over such anti-Israel tropes. She later apologized and clarified her criticism of the Israeli government. No one believed her and her clarification just made matters worse. She also claimed that Israel had “hypnotized the world,” among other anti-Semitic statements. In February, she claimed, falsely, that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) bribed members of Congress to support Israel. Now, a number of Democrats are boycotting AIPAC.

“Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes,” she wrote on Twitter.

“Being opposed to [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu and the occupation is not the same as being anti-Semitic,” she continued. “I am grateful to the many Jewish allies who have spoken out and said the same.”

A few did show up outside the event to support Omar. But not many.

From Fox News:

“The event at the fourth annual Valley Banquet, titled “Advancing Justice: Empowering Valley Muslims,” was sold out and closed to the public. The Los Angeles Police Department told City News Service that it had an unspecified number of officers working the event.

“We don’t disclose the numbers,” Officer Sal Ramirez told City News Service.

“Omar’s visit to Southern California is expected to continue Sunday, as she is scheduled to attend a private meet-and-greet in Irvine, according to a flyer for the event.

“Her appearance was one of two political events in the region Saturday. In Los Angeles, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, a Democratic 2020 presidential candidate, visited a mosque to commemorate the victims of the March 15 mass shooting in New Zealand, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“Your background is different than mine,” Sanders told about 200 Muslims at the Islamic Center of Southern California. “What a joy it is to share that.”

“Later in the day, he spoke to an estimated 12,000 people at a downtown Los Angeles rally.

“As president of the United States, I will not have kind words to say about authoritarian leaders around the world who espouse bigotry and hatred,” Sanders told the crowd. “Together we will make the United States the leader in the world in the fight for democracy and human rights.”’

CAIR claims to speak for American Muslims but is widely seen as an extremist group with terrorist ties.

Breitbart noted:

“In 2007-8, CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the terror financing trial of the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development. That case, in turn, led the FBI to discontinue its work with the organization. In 2009, a federal judge ruled that the government “produced ample evidence to establish” the ties of CAIR with Hamas, the Palestinian terror organization. The United Arab Emirates labeled CAIR a terrorist organization in 2014 (a decision that the Obama administration opposed).

[…]

“The political action committee of CAIR in California donated the maximum of $5,000 to Omar’s 2018 campaign.

“In 2015, CAIR’s Los Angeles director suggested that the U.S. was partly to blame for the San Bernardino terror attack, in which 14 people were killed, due to American foreign policy. CAIR also offered legal assistance to the family of the terrorists who carried out the attack.”

Political street artist Sabo put up a number of signs criticizing anti-Semitic comments from Omar in the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles amid the freshman lawmaker’s appearance in town for a speech. Never one to hold back, Sabo’s art went right to the heart of the matter. Sabo mocked both Omar and CAIR with new street art. He called her out for her past of anti-Semitic statements.

As Breitbart pointed out, “Sabo routinely uses his street art to mock progressives in politics and Hollywood. He recently ripped Texas Democrat and 2020 hopeful Beto O’Rourke for his drunk driving arrest.” Sabo has been banned on Twitter but is one of my favorite artists.

Omar also blamed President Trump for the massacre carried out by an Australian man in New Zealand last week at two separate mosques.

From Omar’s speech:

“We all kind of knew that this was happening, but the reason I think that many of us knew that this was going to get worse is that we finally have a leader, a world leader in the White House, who publicly says Islam hates us. Who fuels hate against Muslims. Who thinks it is okay to speak about a faith and a whole community in a way that is dehumanizing, vilifying — and doesn’t understand, or at least makes us want to think that he doesn’t understand, the consequences that his words might have. Some people, like me, know that he understands the consequences. He knows that there are people that he can influence to threaten our lives, to diminish our presence, but what we know and what Islam teaches us — and what I always say, is that ‘Love Trumps Hate.’”

Omar also went on to say:

“It doesn’t matter how good you were if you can’t have your prayer mat and take your 15 minute break to go pray in a country that was founded on religious liberty,” Omar said to applause. “It doesn’t matter how good you are if you one day find yourself in a school where other religions are talked about, but when Islam is mentioned, we are only talking about terrorists and if you say something you are sent to the principal’s office.”

“So, to me, I say raise hell. Make people uncomfortable,” Rep. Omar said to the excited audience. “Because here’s the truth, for far too long we have lived with the discomfort of being a second-class citizen and frankly I am tired of it, and every single Muslim in this country should be tired of it.”

That sounds disturbingly like an incitement to violence.

Omar shared the stage at the event with Hassan Shibly, the executive director of CAIR Florida, who believes that Hezbollah and Hamas are not terrorist organizations and who openly despises gay people.

This is not the only fundraising event behind closed doors for Omar. She just got back from one in Florida as well. People who hate America, Israel and freedom are funding this woman. It should not be allowed and if it continues, it will not end well for either side.
