Florida Sheriff Scott Israel Obliterated With #ResignSheriffIsrael Campaign on Twitter: Fair?

In the wake of the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school in Parkland, Florida last week, Sheriff Scott Israel is being roasted on social media… to say the least.

On Twitter, a viral hashtag movement entitled #ResignSheriffIsrael has surfaced and is catching on like wildfire.

He has been the face of the shooting since the beginning, throwing his deputies under the bus and blaming the NRA as well. As calls for massive gun control ensued, details of the handling of the threat and then the Valentine’s Day massacre started to surface.

In the middle of all of it is Sheriff Israel who looks more and more to blame in all this.

Florida Representative, Chairman Bill Hager just sent a letter to Governor Rick Scott demanding the removal of Sheriff Israel from office for neglecting his duty and for monstrous incompetence. An excerpt of Chairman Hager’s Letter to Gov Scott: “An investigation by Sheriff Israel into the unfathomable inaction of these deputies will do nothing to bring back the 17 victims. The Sheriff was fully aware of the threat this individual presented to his community and chose to ignore it. Sadly, he was not the only one that ignored it. DCF, Broward County Schools, the FBI and the BSO all had the pieces to put this puzzle together, but failed to communicate. While you do not have authority to remove anyone at the FBI, you do have the authority to remove Sheriff Israel, and I encourage you do to so immediately.”

14 children and three staff members were murdered. 15 others were wounded. Sheriff Israel had not one, but four deputies who were on the scene during the shooting. They stayed outside, guns drawn behind their patrol cars and did not engage the shooter. They let him go through the school and kill at will. The Broward County officers were there for four of the six minutes of the slaughter. Coral Springs Officers arrived and along with one Sunrise officer and two Broward County officers, who had also just arrived on scene, they proceeded to enter the killing field. The four deputies remained outside and never did go in. By then, the killing was done and Cruz had smuggled himself out of the school with other students.

When Sheriff Israel appeared on a town hall for CNN with Dana Loesch this last week, he blamed the NRA and accused them of being responsible along with the gun the killer used. He surely already knew the details of what occurred at the crime scene and said nothing. He lied by omission and I suspect he ordered those deputies to stand down. That’s an order I would have disobeyed, but that’s just me. Israel should resign immediately. There were 39 instances over six years and more even before that when this monster could have been stopped. The school failed, social services failed, the FBI failed massively, the doctors failed, the parents failed and the police certainly failed. But instead of addressing all of that, they went for a political agenda to ban guns. That’s not going to work.

The first officer who was the resource officer, Scot Peterson, resigned before he could be fired. Two of the other three deputies are on suspension. Peterson had known about this kid previously and what a threat he was and had ignored it. The sheriff said he was “devastated, sick to my stomach” that Peterson “never went in.” On a follow-up about what Peterson should have done, he replied, “Went in. Address the killer. Kill the killer.” But he would not answer when asked what orders he had given during the encounter.

Israel has been screaming for more gun control and a strengthening of the Baker Act so that police would have more authority to involuntarily commit dangerous, mentally unstable individuals in accordance with proper psychiatric and judicial authorization. He’s a fascist. “In Florida, we call it a Baker Act. It allows us to take an individual to be, against their will, involuntarily, to go to a mental health facility and be treated,” Israel said. Dana Loesch wasn’t having any of it. “Thirty-nine visits did not meet that standard? 39 visits, assaulting students, assaulting parents, taking bullets and knives to school did not meet that standard?” Loesch asked. Israel pushed back against the accusation the department met with Cruz 39 times, which is originally sourced to CNN.

“They were threatened with death. They were threatened that they were going to bleed. They were threatened that they were going to be killed,” Loesch told Israel. All Israel did at that point was interject that Dana was not an expert and didn’t know what she was talking about. Right. And Israel hid even more from the public. The police department was given a specific tip, among several phone calls about Cruz’s violent behavior, that he “planned to shoot up the school.” The FBI also failed to investigate Cruz’s warnings that he intended to become a “professional school shooter.” They had at least two credible tips that they didn’t follow through on at all.

The gunman had reportedly brought knives and bullets to school, assaulted a parent, assaulted other students and made a slew of online threats about shooting up a school, even expressing a desire to be a “professional school shooter.” The Broward County Sheriff’s office received at least 18 calls between 2008 and 2017 from concerned residents regarding the future gunman’s erratic behavior and threats, including at least five that mentioned he had weapons. And no one did a damn thing.

Israel has been in hot water before. And his friends are telling. He was rewarded by former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton with a position on her Florida Leadership Council. Israel has also been “the subject of 10 internal affairs complaints, mainly for excessive force, although he was cleared in all of them.” Imagine that… all of them.

And this is not the only instance of Israel leading a questionable law enforcement response to a mass shooting. As reported in a Sun Sentinel investigation: “Months after the Greater Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport shooting, a 2017 Sun-Sentinel investigation revealed that Israel’s Broward Sheriff’s Office failed to “seize control and set up an effective command system” at the airport. BSO “erred from the very beginning in controlling the shooting scene in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2, where five people died and six others were wounded.” The reason, cited in a 99-page draft report by the agency itself, mentioned the sheriff’s office’s aging radio system, which garbled communications among officers, forcing police to improvise with “hand signals, runners and cellphones.”

Ever notice how this guy blames everyone and everything but himself? In the timeline of this shooting, Cruz arrived in an Uber, transported his rifle into the high school, shot up several classrooms, exited the building, ran to Walmart, then Subway and then a McDonald’s. Then, the subject was apprehended by an officer who recognized his description without further violent incident. It’s interesting to note that Cruz, even though he was immediately identified, was able to slip out with other students and not be caught at three different public locations by police. There was also the fact that the security tape at the school had a 20 minute delay which caused officers to go to the wrong location initially.

“For almost a half-hour after a school shooter dropped his assault-style rifle and escaped Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, police officers thought they were seeing his actions live on the school’s security system. They soon realized the images were tape delayed, which Coral Springs Police Chief Tony Pustizzi told the South Florida Sun Sentinel made a chaotic situation more confusing,” NBC News reported. It took an hour and a half to take Cruz into custody and that only happened because of an alert officer actually doing his job. He was two miles away from the school. The image painted by the reports is that of gross negligence and dereliction of duty.

Ben Shapiro and Michelle Malkin were among the first ones to call for Israel’s resignation. Politicians then followed suit. There needs to be a full, impartial investigation into this whole incident. Especially into Israel and his actions. Right now, he’s covering his own sorry ass. #ResignSheriffIsrael #ResignSheriffScottIsrael
