One way or another President Trump may get his wish to have Mexico pay for the border wall. If not Mexico, maybe the drug lords and criminals from Mexico who have been caught sneaking their drugs into the United States. Who better to pay for a wall to help keep the drugs, drug lords, criminals and gangs out of our country, than the criminals themselves? The criminals from the drug cartels, like drug kingpin ‘El Chapo’ have a lot of cash and assets from all their drugs that are seized by our government.
Senator Cruz on Tuesday introduced the Ensuring Lawful Collection of Hidden Assets to Provide Order (EL CHAPO) Act. The Act if passed would use the money forfeited from ‘El Chapo’ – almost $14 billion worth of profits and assets to pay for the wall itself. What a clever idea! Not only would it help fund the wall, it would certainly help to avoid a government shutdown. Afterall, as Senator Cruz states, $14 billion would go along way to funding and building a good portion of that wall and helping to keep America safe.
H/T Western Journalism:
While President Donald Trump’s administration continues to grapple with the federal budget and how to finance the proposed wall between the U.S. and Mexico, a newly-suggested solution involves an unlikely source.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, proposed on Tuesday that the money seized from “El Chapo” Guzman, the one-time leader of the world’s biggest drug cartel, should be put toward the wall’s construction, as should funds confiscated from drug kingpins in future cases.
“U.S. authorities are seeking the forfeiture of more than $14 billion in cash proceeds from narcotic sales” that Guzman has earned during his long career, Forbes reports.
Cruz’s plan comes in the form of proposed legislation, the El Chapo Act.
“Fourteen billion dollars will go a long way toward building a wall that will keep Americans safe and hinder the illegal flow of drugs, weapons and individuals across our southern border,” Cruz said in a statement.
If passed in its current form, Cruz’s bill would apply not only to the wall but to border protection in general. It stipulates that money taken from drug lords arrested in the future will be put toward border security.
Other GOP lawmakers have suggested similar measures.
“Having the money seized from Mexican drug cartels would mean that the bad Mexicans would end up paying for the wall, and the bad Mexicans have been terrorizing the good Mexicans with crime and kidnappings and murders within Mexico itself,” said Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., who has introduced a similar plan in the House.
“Saying that we’re going to have the Mexican drug cartels end up paying for the wall, that may very well be something that is powerful enough to get the institutional inertia in the Senate overcome,” Sensenbrenner said.
Guzman was the leader of the Sinaloa drug cartel and after his capture managed to escape from Mexican prisons twice.
He was extradited to the U.S. in January and stands accused of, among other things, moving close to 500 tons of cocaine over the U.S.-Mexico border.
According to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) more than half of all the border apprehensions occurred in Texas, about 57 percent (235,567) of all 2013 southwest border apprehensions. That means that an estimated six out of every ten illegal immigrants arrested along the U.S.-Mexico border in 2013 were apprehended in Texas. In addition, CBP seized upwards of 4.3 million pounds of narcotics across the U.S. last year including 2.9 million along the U.S.-Mexico border. Furthermore, “the agency seized more than $106 million in unreported currency through targeted enforcement operations” nationwide, including $41.3 million along the U.S.-Mexico border alone. That was just in 2013!
Where did ALL that money go? Was it just absorbed into the government’s general budget? And what about the $4 billion that was already allocated to building the border wall, according to Rep. Gohmert (R-TX), where did that money go?
Seems to me, the government has a lot of cash coming in from illegal drugs and criminals at the border, that those dollars ALONE would be more than ample to pay for the wall, maintain the wall, and pay for border patrol protection or agents as well.
Again, I agree with Senator Cruz who posted on Twitter:
The US government is seeking the criminal forfeiture of $14B+ in drug proceeds & illicit profits from El Chapo. http://bit.ly/2otlZ7B
Personally, I think it’s a BRILLIANT idea! ABSOLUTELY! Have the drug cartels pay for the border wall that will keep odrugs and the criminals associated with those drugs, along with a lot of other bad dudes OUT! You have got to give it to Senator Cruz on this! Nice work Senator!
The real question is, Why haven’t more people come to consensus on this before now? We have certainly arrested enough drug criminals over the years to pay for that wall several times over. $14 billion is a good start! #BuildTheWall!
Sounds like the funding problem for Trump’s border wall is solved…unless of course the Democrats are really going to be THAT stupid to pass up using these seized funds instead of taxpayers’ dollars to fund the border wall to help keep America safe. Oh, never mind, it’s Democrats, they never wanted the wall built in the first place. It’s called votes…which they are going to need in the near future to keep their seats, especially if they don’t pass this ‘El Chapo Act’.
And for the RINO Republicans who vote against Sen. Cruz’s ‘El Chapo Act’, consider yourself primaried! Cheap labor only gets you so far. It’s got to be stopped. That same cheap illegal labor has been stealing jobs from good legal citizens over the past several years. So if you RINOS decide to vote against the ‘El Chapo Act’, and you’re up for re-election, I hope Sen. Cruz helps to fund a conservative to run against you!
If you agree with Senator Cruz, that we should use the dollars and assets from the drug lords and criminals we capture, head on over to Senator Cruz’s website and complete the survey! Talk about a great idea! Thank you Senator Cruz….BRILLIANT idea from a brilliant man! God Bless You!
