The NAACP’s Image Awards were held last night and “Empire’s” Jussie Smollett was a no-show. It’s no wonder considering the scandal he’s embroiled in over staging fake hate crimes and then getting caught at it by the Chicago Police. Yep, Chicago prosecutor Kim Foxx dropped all charges after a call from one of Michelle Obama’s people… but that doesn’t mean anyone believes Smollett is innocent here.
Comedian Chris Rock is known for offensive jokes and at times is genuinely funny. He did not hold back at the awards ceremony even though he had been told not to make Smollett jokes. Rock roasted Smollett and mercilessly mocked him. “They said ‘No Jussie Smollett jokes’ … What a waste of light skin. Do you know what I could do with that light skin? That curly hair? My career would be out of here! I’d be running Hollywood,” said Rock, who was on hand to present the award for Outstanding Comedy Series.
It’s not just the right that is outraged over Smollett’s disgraceful behavior. The left and anyone with a sense of decency that does not want to see riots and violence in the streets is infuriated by his actions. He should be in jail, not walking free and lying at will. Rock made this crystal clear: “What the hell was he thinking? You’re ‘Jessie’ from now on. You don’t get the ‘u’ no more. That ‘u’ was respect. You ain’t getting no respect from me!” Or from anyone else either.
Smollett was nominated for best supporting actor in a television drama for his role as Jamal Lyon on “Empire.” He understandably lost and the show’s ratings have cratered. The show chose to stand behind Smollett instead of doing the right thing. That was a fatal decision. He was edged out by “Grey’s Anatomy” star Jesse Williams.
Woke millennials on Twitter are both outraged and surprised – not just indignant but also, it seems, genuinely caught unawares – that Chris Rock told jokes about a racial controversy involving a celebrity. pic.twitter.com/weCMq4rRVr

Smollett has been nominated for the award four years in a row and won in 2017. Personally, I have never watched the show and don’t intend to. Having said that it has been a runaway hit. Smollett’s actions are going to impact everyone who has worked with him. I still think the show will cut him but who knows? The show itself may not be long for this world.
The award was handed out during the untelevised portion of the show Friday night. I’m sure that was a calculated move. Leading up to the event, NAACP Image Awards host and “Black-ish” actor Anthony Anderson said in light of the charges against Smollett being dropped, he hopes the “Empire” actor will win for his work on the show. Talk about tone-deaf and ethically-challenged.

The firestorm in Chicago over this whole mess is far from over. The FBI is being brought in on the fake hate letter that Smollett mailed to himself. As for the hate crime hoax, I doubt that will go away either. The police are furious over this. They got no notice that Foxx was going to do this. Even Obama’s man in Chicago, Rahm Emanuel, who is now the mayor there was really ticked off over this.
Smollett is accused of staging an anti-gay, racist attack on himself in January in order to promote his career. That was after he mailed the hate letter to himself. This will do the exact opposite and wind up costing him his career.

Smollett has denied the charges from the very beginning. He claims two men (who a black) approached him, beat him, threw bleach on him and tied a rope around his neck before shouting, “This is MAGA country,” in reference to President Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.” Except a receipt was found showing that Smollett bought the supplies himself and the two men were connected to Smollett and were paid by him.
The crowd loved Rock’s jokes, especially Trevor Noah, who hosts “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central. While Chris Rock nuked Smollett, others stood with him that were in attendance. This has fractured the black community it would seem.
We just saw this generational divide in real time. Chris Rock got on stage and clowned Jussie Smollett then Yara Shahidi got on stage and said “I stand with Jussie.”
The OGs believe no one or no joke is off limits.
New generation get offended and stand w ppl even in the wrong.

The Right Scoop put it perfectly:
“Chris Rock doesn’t give a damn. He has been targeted by the humorless “woke” liberal crowd already, and it doesn’t seem like he cares to go along with politically correct demands. Good for him. And don’t mistake me, I’m not saying he’s now a warrior for free speech or conservative values. But at least some people are saying “eff off” to the PC police.”
Exactly. I usually don’t agree with Chris Rock or Trevor Noah but this time they are right on the money. Preach it.
I don't want a LIAR to represent my black people.
His image doesn't represent me. https://t.co/iNhjmgbT1S

The NAACP is an embarrassment to all Black Americans
They nominated @JussieSmollett
for an award
A man who sought to divide this nation by faking a hate crime
Then again the left likes to see this country divided
I say we come together as Americans. Who's with me? 🙋

So nominate a person who was charged with 16 felonies and had cases questionably dropped? Faked a racially motivated hate crime by paying 2 friends to stage the assault. Smollett should be awarded jail time and fines, NOT an image award from the NAACP!

You have no shred of decency left @NAACP ! Why would you nominate an idiot like @JussieSmollett who undermines everything you supposedly stand for?! What a crock. You are supporting fake racism. Who will believe anyone when the real thing happens? pic.twitter.com/tv2ky1A3Iy
