California Mayor Defies ICE: Warns Illegal Aliens Ahead Of Sting Operation

Oakland, CA Mayor Libby Schaaf (Democrat), tipped off illegal aliens concerning an upcoming raid from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, further displaying the stark divide between immigration officers and Golden State politicians.

This is straight up obstruction of justice. In essence, she flipped off ICE. She issued a media release on twitter warning illegal immigrants that an ICE raid imminent, acting as a de facto gang lookout.

More than 150 were rounded up by ICE, but more than 800 evaded capture thanks to Mayor Schaaf. No one is above the law. She should be arrested for this. The warning, which Schaaf put out around 9 pm on Feb. 24, warned illegal immigrants that the next raid would be “starting soon, as within the next 24 hours.”

Local media outlet KTVU reported that ICE agents had been in the Bay Area conducting business audits to ensure local companies were hiring legal citizens. “Earlier today, I learned from multiple credible sources that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is preparing to conduct an operation in the Bay Area, including Oakland, starting soon, as within the next 24 hours,” Schaaf stated in her warning. Oakland has already declared itself a sanctuary city and is defying federal law.

Schaaf wasn’t finished either and justified her lawlessness. She said that her goal behind the tip was “not to panic our residents but to protect them,” according to BizPac Review.

“In Oakland, OUSD public schools have strict protocols in place to protect our students and families,” she continued, further solidifying her and the city’s stance against the Trump administration’s call to deport illegal immigrants. “Oakland police officers are prohibited from participating in ICE activities.”

Twitter went insane over it and people were incensed by Schaaf’s actions against ICE. Schaaf is up for re-election this year. She has been public in her disdain for the Trump administration, even going so far as to say she would go to jail over the sanctuary policy adopted by her city. I say oblige her. “It is no surprise that the bully in chief is continuing to try to intimidate our most vulnerable residents,” she told KTVU in January 2017. ICE was blunt on Fox News this morning that her early warning let over 800 illegal aliens evade capture. Officials are furious and they aren’t backing down. ICE will keep doing their job. It’s a pity that Attorney General Jeff Sessions isn’t doing his job and arresting asshats like this. It is well within his power to do so.

Schaaf called Oakland “a city of law-abiding immigrants and families who deserve to live free from the constant threat of arrest and deportation,” and said she planned to protect the community’s “most vulnerable.” Mayor Schaaf did not protect vulnerable citizens. She put them further at risk and instead protected criminals. She is very up front about working against ICE: “In Oakland, OUSD public schools have strict protocols in place to protect our students and families. Oakland police officers are prohibited from participating in ICE activities. Additionally, California state law prohibits business owners from assisting ICE agents in immigration enforcement and bars federal agents from accessing employee-only areas.”

The 150 were arrested in the San Francisco Bay Area starting Sunday as part of “targeted immigration enforcement operations,” ICE told Fox News on Tuesday. Roughly half of those arrested by deportation officers have convictions for assault and battery, crimes against children, weapons charges and DUI, according to the agency. ICE highlighted the arrest of one fugitive of the federal agency in particular, who officials stated is a documented gang member. “Over the past 18 years [Nuñez-Salgado] has accumulated criminal convictions in California that have resulted in more than 15 years of prison sentencings,” Schwab said, adding the man “has been previously removed by ICE on four prior occasions” and is a member of the Sureño street gang.

Acting ICE director Thomas Homan harshly criticized Oakland mayor Libby Schaaf Wednesday for warning illegal immigrants that the agency was planning a detention operation. “What she did is no better than a gang lookout yelling police when a police cruiser comes to the neighborhood except she did it to [the] entire community of [Oakland]… this is beyond the pale,” Homan declared in a Fox News interview. “This is a whole new low to intentionally warn criminals that law enforcement is coming. I can’t believe it happened. She intentionally put law enforcement officers at risk. Being a law enforcement officer is dangerous enough. But to give criminals a head’s up we’re coming [in the] next 24 hours, increases the risk.” He continued that “there are 800 we were unable to locate because of that warning. That community is a lot less safe than it would have been.”

Other arrests include that of another Sureños gang member and other illegal immigrants with criminal convictions from Mexico and Guatemala throughout Northern California. “The Oakland mayor’s decision to publicize her suspicions about ICE operations further increased that risk for my officers and alerted criminal aliens — making clear that this reckless decision was based on her political agenda,” ICE Deputy Director Thomas Homan said in a statement Tuesday. “Unlike the politicians who attempt to undermine ICE’s critical mission, our officers will continue to fulfill their sworn duty to protect public safety.”

However, the mayor stood by her decision, saying she felt as though it was her “duty” to share the information. “I do not regret sharing this information,” Schaaf said. “It is Oakland’s legal right to be a sanctuary city and we have not broken any laws. We believe our community is safer when families stay together.” ICE officials told Fox News they’re asking the Department of Justice to look into whether Schaaf broke any laws by giving the warning. Sessions should do his job here and have her arrested.
