BREAKING: Star Kevin Hart Suffers Major Injuries in Car Accident, Roof Crushed, Careened Off Road Into Ditch
UPDATE ON ACTOR KEVIN HART CRASH: The driver of the car and the female passenger were found pinned in their seat under the crushed roof and the fire department had to saw off the roof to free them.
Comedian Kevin Hart and his driver suffered “major back injuries” in a car crash in the Malibu Hills late Saturday night. Hart’s Plymouth Barracuda veered off the road on the Mulholland Highway, and flipped over, crushing the roof.
The actor/comedian managed to crawl out of the car, but left 2 people behind. A witness claimed that Hart got out of the vehicle first, where a member of his security team picked him up in an SUV. Taken home at first, Hart went to a hospital with “major back injuries.”
Another passenger, Rebecca Broxterman, was involved in the crash but came away unscathed. The driver was later revealed to be Jared Black, who is engaged to Broxterman. Black is 28 years old and resides in Beverly Hills. According to reports, Black was not under the influence when the accident occurred.
The crash was reported in the area of Mulholland Highway and Cold Canyon Road at about 12:45 a.m., authorities said.
Hart was a passenger in his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda when the driver, a 28-year-old man, lost control while turning onto Mulholland Highway and the car went off the roadway and rolled over down an embankment, CHP said.
Hart is a father of three and is best known for his stand-up comedy acts and his roles in “Ride Along,” “Central Intelligence,” and “The Secret Life of Pets,” according to his IMDB page. Hart had bought the car as a 40th birthday present for himself in July.
But lately, Hart has been known as the guy who will not be hosting the Academy Awards
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ended up looking for a new host for the 91st Academy Awards less than 36 hours after naming Kevin Hart for the slot. The comedian, who had faced a major backlash over tweets from 2011 and earlier, announced he would no longer be doing the job he had described as the “opportunity of a lifetime. I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists,” he said. “I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from the past.” He added: “I’m sorry that I hurt people … I am evolving and want to continue to do so.”
Authorities don’t believe drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The cause of the crash is under investigation and no further details were immediately available.
