Attorney General William Barr laid into the “resistance” and House Democrats in a speech last night where he accused them of “using every tool” to bring down President Trump. He was speaking at the Federalist Society’s dinner in Washington, DC. Barr also said the legislative branch of government is increasing its powers beyond its Constitutional parameters and is usurping the executive branch. That’s exactly what is happening here.
According to Barr, the “sabotage” inflicted by an increasingly aggressive Congress is establishing a dangerous precedent for the American government by suggesting that the president is illegitimate, Fox News reported on Saturday. “I deeply admire the American presidency as a political and constitutional institution,” he began. “Unfortunately over the past several decades, we have seen a steady encroachment on executive authority by the other branches of the government.”
Barr, who has been repeatedly criticized for defending Trump, said he was actually worried about the presidency and the “steady grinding down of the executive branch’s authority.”
“I’m concerned that the deck has become stacked against the executive,” he said.
“The fact is that, yes, while the president has certainly thrown out the traditional beltway playbook and punctilio, he was upfront about what he was going to do and the people decided that he was going to serve as president.”
From The Daily Caller:
“Barr cited an “avalanche of subpoenas” and constant interference in presidential appointments as examples of how the House has maneuvered to “incapacitate” the executive branch.
“Immediately after President Trump won the election, opponents inaugurated what they called the ‘resistance’ and they rallied around an explicit strategy of using every tool and maneuver to sabotage the functioning of the executive branch and his administration.”
“The cost of this constant harassment is real,” he said.
“Barr said Trump’s opponents are referring to his presidency as if it were established illegally in a coup and must be overthrown and returned to normal rule.
“Impeachment hearings began this week with House Intelligence Committee Chairman and Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff reprimanding the executive branch of government. “The president has instructed the State Department and other agencies to ignore Congressional subpoenas for documents. He has instructed witnesses to defy subpoenas and refuse to appear. And he has suggested that those who do expose wrongdoing should be treated like traitors and spies.”
“Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said Wednesday that the impeachment hearings would serve as a means of unifying the fractious Democratic Party and thereby “preventing a potentially disastrous outcome” in the 2020 elections.
“Ocasio-Cortez wants House Democrats to “move quite quickly,” she told CNN. “We’re talking about the potential compromise of the 2020 elections. This is not just about something that has occurred, about preventing a potentially disastrous outcome next year.”
“Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan told Democrats that their attempts to impeach the president are unifying the GOP caucus. Jordan vigorously questioned acting U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine William Taylor on Wednesday, asking how Taylor could maintain there was a link between aid to Ukraine and a Biden investigation without pointing to any specific evidence for that contention.”
Barr likened the language used by Trump’s opponents to that of groups who attempt to overthrow the militant rule of seized governments. Again, that is spot-on. It’s called a soft coup against a sitting president and it is part of the revolutionary stance of the left in America these days.
“Now resistance is the language used to describe insurgency against rule imposed by an occupying military power. It obviously connotes that the government is not legitimate. This is a very dangerous and, indeed, incendiary notation to import into the politics of a democratic republic.”
He continued: “They essentially see themselves engaged in a war to cripple, by any means necessary, a duly elected government.”
Barr defended presidential power and accused opponents of President Trump of “waging a scorched-earth, no-holds-barred war of resistance” against him that involves the “systematic shredding of norms and undermining the rule of law.”
You can’t argue with that because it is happening in real-time right before our eyes as a nation. This is not only an attack against the presidency… it’s also an attack against our nation, our Constitution, the American people, and our very way of life.
