After learning of the shooting death of a local K9 police dog, 11 year-old Allison decided to donate her entire allowance to help buy bulletproof vests for all the dogs of Canton Police Department’s K9 unit in Ohio.
The beloved K9 named Jethro died this past January after suffering multiple gunshot wounds while responding to a burglary at a grocery store.
The little girl gave more than most, she gave everything that she had! It is the 21st Century story of the woman that gave two mites in Luke 21:1-4.
You might remember the sad story of Jethro, a K9 unit with the Canton Police Department who died after he was shot in the line of duty.
Well, one little girl was so affected by Jethro’s death that she donated her allowance money to help get bulletproof vests for all the department’s K9 units.
In a touching letter to Jethro’s handler, Officer Ryan Davis, an 11-year-old girl named Allison wrote, “I sorry about Jethro. So here is my allowance for the bulletproof vests. God bless you and the dogs.”
Department spokesman Officer Eric Stanbro said that Davis received 2,000 letters after Jethro’s passing, and Allison’s in particular “really touched him.”
Though she only had a few dollars to give, her thoughtfulness “struck a chord” with Davis and the rest of the K9 handlers.
Don’t we wish we had more adults with this mentality? So many these days who have a selfish entitlement mentality instead.
21 And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, 2 and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. 3 So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4 for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God,[a] but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.”
