Democrats Demand Citizens Get Government Permission to Buy Guns
Democrats have introduced legislation that requires Americans to get permission from the government before buying a gun in any setting, retail or otherwise.
Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) is sponsoring the legislation.
He said, “the American people have spoken up and demanded action to help end the tragedy of gun violence that far too many in our country face every day. Government will continue our fight and we will deliver.”
Democrats had already put forward legislation that would essentially criminalize private gun sales. They are attacking sales between friends, neighbors, sales between co-workers, etc. The bill, H.R. 8 is intended to honor Gabby Giffords for surviving the attack on her life eight years ago, on January 8, 2011.
Ironically, the government laws contained in H.R. 8 would not have prevented the attack on Giffords from occurring. Her attacker passed a background check at retail to acquire the handgun he used in that heinous crime.
In fact, Breitbart notes that these are gun sales that “have been occurring in the United States since December 15, 1791, the date the Second Amendment was ratified.”
NPR explains that the Democrats are gunning for sales that “[include] Internet sales…[sales] at gun shows and person-to-person transactions.”
Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) is sponsoring the legislation. He said, “From the public polling to the ballot box, the American people have spoken up and demanded action to help end the tragedy of gun violence that far too many in our country face every day. Government will continue our fight and we will deliver.”
What he did not say is that the United States has had background checks on retail gun sales since 1998 and nearly every mass shooter of the 21st century acquired his firearms via a background check. The exceptions are those attackers who stole their guns. Therefore, expanding background checks will do nothing to stop determined attackers.
But what will be accomplished by expanding background checks is that neighbors selling to neighbors, life-long friends selling to friends, and co-workers selling to co-workers, will be criminalized for not first asking government permission.
California Senator Dianne Feinstein (D) on Wednesday also introduced legislation to, once again, push another government assault weapons ban, similar to legislation that passed back in 1994.
Americans across the nation are asking Congress to reinstate the federal ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. If we’re going to put a stop to mass shootings and protect our children, we need to get these weapons of war off our streets.

Key provisions in Feinstein’s bill:
- Bans the sale, manufacture, transfer and importation of 205 military-style assault weapons by name. Owners may keep existing weapons.
- Bans any assault weapon that accepts a detachable ammunition magazine and has one or more military characteristic. Including a pistol grip, a forward grip, a barrel shroud, a threaded barrel or a folding or telescoping stock. Owners may keep existing weapons.
- Bans magazines and other ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition, which allow shooters to quickly fire many rounds without needing to reload. Owners may keep existing magazines.
The founding fathers of the United States foresaw a descent into government tyranny that, history repeatedly shows, ALWAYS occurs when a people are devoid of a potent defense against it.
The Second Amendment, second only to the right of free expression, is their solution. The solution has served our Republic well.
Since the time of our founding, we have seen many so-called “democracies” descend into a tyranny of torture, murder, and total political oppression, but not ours. This isn’t because our politicians and extremists are less hateful, bigoted, or self-serving than others. It’s because they know that an American people, well armed, are capable of throwing down such oppression.
Today, Leftists oppose BOTH free speech AND the right to bear arms. They oppose lawful assembly, and even law enforcement; laws which they helped to create.
They impose government conditions in cities under their control that foster violence and murder by people struggling to survive under their unilateral rule – all so these would-be dictators can have an excuse to remove our rights.
The battle is far from over. As long as we have the tools with which to unseat these politicians, we have a chance to ensure for our children, and their children, the freedoms that have made the United States of America the greatest country on Earth.
What part of SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED do they not understand. We all need to fight to keep our guns in order to keep us safe from a controlling government.
