Student Removed From Class For Claiming There Are Two Genders

A student may not be able to graduate after being barred from class for bringing up the wage gap myth after being required to watch transgender propaganda and speaking out of turn as a white male.

The identity of the professor has been found, and none of us should be surprised that she’s an unhinged “eco feminist.” The student who has been barred has now retained legal representation, so let’s start from the top.

Feb 28: The Incident

At the end of February, students in the religious studies department class were required to watch a TED Talk with Paula Stone, a transgender woman (that is, someone who was born a man but lives as a woman). The Talk was titled “I’ve lived as a man & a woman — here’s what I learned” and went on for 15 minutes complaining about:

  • mansplaining
  • male privilege
  • systemic sexism

Then, after the video, the professor opened the floor to class discussion but said that only female students may speak. When the female students have said their part, then male students would be allowed to comment.

The student, named Lake Ingle wrote on a now-deleted Facebook post about his own thoughts and actions. He said that he waited for about 30 seconds of silence to pass, but no female students spoke up. He felt that it was appropriate to then “enter the conversation”:

“[I] took this opportunity to point out the official view of biologists who claim there are only two biological genders [and refuted the] gender wage gap.”

Afterwards, said Ingle, the class resumed.

He objected to the class structure and to the “use of anecdotal accounts of one woman’s experience to begin a discussion in which they were considered reality.” It was then, said the student, that Dr. Downie “attempted to silence me because I am not a woman.”

If you caught that, the student even used the “correct” female pronouns when referring to the transgender Paula Stone.

Prof. Alison Downie

While not reported in the initial documents, the professor has been found to be Alison Downie, who specialized in “Christian eco-feminism.”

Here’s part of the abstract from her recent paper entitled A Spirituality of Openness: Christian Ecofeminist Perspectives and Inter-religious Dialogue

“Feminists have critiqued assumptions and structures of inter-religious dialogue even as they
have acknowledged the need for more feminist presence in this area. Because ecofeminist values span religious differences, exploring a spirituality evident across Christian ecofeminist authors makes a contribution to inter-religious feminist work.”

Huh?

There’s no understanding her official work. So let’s take a look at one of her blog posts from January 10th, 2018 where she drove past a student holding up a sign outside of a makeshift church that read “Smile, it’s Sunday!”:

“Though I drove on in steely silence, I wanted to slam on the brakes, storm into that cluster of shiny happy young people and throw down a Molotov cocktail of sudden death, mental illness, tragedy, and suffering of all kinds into their church street party: “NO! I will NOT smile because it’s Sunday. And who are you to tell me I should? Who are you to imply that if I do not smile, I somehow don’t measure up to your understanding of what faith or salvation is?”

Rage boiled within me for miles and miles, churning over the shame these young people tossed around in an insular, and therefore, arrogant obliviousness.”

She’s bonkers.

Aftermath February 29

The day after class, Ingle was summoned by his instructor who gave him the following documents along with a letter from the school’s Provost Dr. Tomothy Moerland.

Official Documentation

Here’s part of the documentation submitted by Professor Downie in relation to the student.

Most of the crimes of the students are feelings-based. None of this has to do with what we know as “academic integrity” which would cover cheating and copying answers from other students. All of the complaints are of the professor feeling disrespected.

The punishment is just as stupid: the stupid must apologize for hurting the feelings of the class and of the professor.

What next?

In a social media post, the student said that he would be “fighting to ensure that students may disagree with their professors and if they do, must speak up.” He said that this isn’t about transgender issues or the wage gap, but the right of students to not be punished for holding a different opinion.

“During my time as a Religious Studies major, I have had professors insult me for opposing views, call me names such as ‘racist’ or ‘sexist’, and have had my views discredited due my race, gender, and sexual orientation.”

This will continue to develop over the next few days. Good luck!

The Transgender Ted Talk

Good luck to anyone who wants to spend the fifteen minutes watching this. But if you plan on sending your child to the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, know that this is what they’ll be expected to love.
