It seems former CIA Director John Brennan may have perjured himself. That’s right! In a soon to be released memo, House Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes claims that Brennan perjured himself in a public testimony. Oops!
According to Paul Sperry of RealClearInvestigations, Nunes’ next memo will outline the role “former CIA Director John Brennan and other Obama intelligence officials played in promoting the salacious and unverified Steele dossier on Donald Trump — including whether Brennan perjured himself in public testimony about it.”
Sperry notes that in testimony delivered before the House Intelligence Committee in 2017, former CIA Director John Brennan denied that “the dossier factored into the intelligence community’s publicly released conclusion last year that Russia meddled in the 2016 election ‘to help Trump’s chances of victory.’”
Former CIA Director John Brennan likewise claimed to not have been aware that the dossier had been commissioned by Democrats. However, Nunes’ first memo suggests otherwise. Released last month, the first memo states that the dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele and the research firm Fusion GPS at the behest of Democrats was knowingly used by the Obama administration to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court warrant against Trump’s foreign policy adviser, Carter Page.
According to an aide to Nunes, the House Intelligence Committee chairman’s next memo will be even more damning.
“John Brennan did more than anyone to promulgate the dirty dossier,” the aide reportedly said to Sperry. “He politicized and effectively weaponized what was false intelligence against Trump.”
Capitol Hill sources have reportedly confirmed that Brennan had indeed “talked up the dossier to Democratic leaders, as well as the press, during the campaign.”
“They say he also fed allegations about Trump-Russia contacts directly to the FBI, while pressuring the bureau to conduct an investigation of several Trump campaign figures starting in the summer of 2016,” Sperry’s report states.
An unusual private meeting between then-Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and Brennan in August of 2016 appears to coincide with this allegation.
Sperry notes that during the meeting, Brennan “told Reid the Russians were backing Trump and that the FBI would have to take the lead in an investigation because the FBI is the federal agency in charge of domestic intelligence and, unlike the CIA, can spy on U.S. citizens.”
Two days later Reid submitted a letter to then-FBI Director James Comey demanding the bureau launch an investigation on Trump’s campaign.Roughly two months later, Comey “signed an application for a surveillance warrant to monitor Page’s emails, text messages, phone conversations and residence.”
I think it’s pretty clear that Brennan lied through his teeth when he claimed last year that the dossier played no role in spurring the Obama administration to spy on Trump’s campaign officials.
They also said Brennan sought also made sure contents from the dossier were attached to an official daily intelligence briefing for then-President Obama in January, weeks before Trump was sworn in. That briefing was then leaked to CNN and media, who had refrained to report on the dossier earlier. Buzzfeed would then publish the dossier shortly thereafter.
Nunes plans to call Brennan and other former Obama administration officials before the committee, based on newly-obtained documents and information, according to Sperry.
John Brennan has claimed he first learned of the dossier in late summer of 2016, when members of the news media asked him about it, and that he heard just “snippets,” and had not seen it until a month after the election.
This will be phase three of the Nunes investigation, with the involvement of the intelligence community coming into sharper focus.
In phase threee, Nunes will focus on Brennan as well as President Obama’s first CIA director, Leon Panetta, along with the former president’s intelligence czar, James Clapper, and national security adviser, Susan Rice, and security adviser-turned U.N. ambassador Samantha Power, among other intelligence officials.
Ought to get pretty interesting.
Of course, we all know lying is not new for former CIA Director John Brennan. It’s called CYA. Right Hillary?
The Guardian notes that Brennan was forced to apologize in 2014 after he “blatantly lied to the American public,” denying earlier that year that the CIA had been spying on the U.S. Senate.
Sooner or later, all of these blatant liars, like Comey and Brennan, and all the other Clinton cronies will be found guilty. They all lied and they all spied. They used the FBI and CIA for political reason to spy on Trump. Crooked Hillary called it ‘winning at all costs’. Let’s hope those costs are as real as their sentences. Lock them up!
