Rep. Kim Daniels, a Florida Democrat, sponsored legislation that would require that schools post “In God We Trust” in a conspicuous place.
The Jacksonville Representative who runs her own ministry said that Florida needed the legislation, given the goings on in the state.
“He is not a Republican or a Democrat and He is not black or white,” Daniels said. “He is the light, and our schools need light in them like never before.”
Daniels stated that while Florida has “gun issues” that need to be addressed, “the real thing that needs to be addressed are issues of the heart.
“We cannot put God in a closet when the issues we face are bigger than us.”
The bill overwhelmingly passed by a count of 97-10 and was reportedly met with a standing ovation. A companion bill has yet to be taken up by the Florida Senate. For the “In God We Trust” mandate to become law, the state Senate would have to pass the same legislation.
“In God We Trust,” happens to also be the state motto.
Daniels also stated that video games as an example, saying children are being trained to become virtual assassins. Things might be getting so bad, Daniels suggested, that people will come to realize problems are much larger than politics.
What will really help reduce the frequency and scale of lethal violence?
The recent massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, has shocked us all. It is not only because this one incident was so horrendous. It is because it was only one of an apparently endless and increasingly frequent series of mass murders in our country.
Only 1 percent of murder victims in America are killed in mass murders. They are defined as those in which four or more people die, according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
More than 90 percent are killed in single-victim homicides. So if we wish to reduce the toll of violent deaths in America, we need to give more attention to the overall murder rate. Most of the deaths occur one at a time.
Since the 90’s, that violent murder rate is down significantly, except of course in Chicago and California, the two places with the liberals dream of gun control.
Many politicians continue to attribute the cause of almost every mass murder to mental illness. We know that is not true of murders in general, only 1 percent of which are found by the courts to have been caused by mental illness.
That is, only 1 percent of those who commit homicide are found to be “not guilty by reason of insanity.”
But this is also not true of the much rarer mass murderers. One study concluded that only about 22 percent of those who commit mass murders suffer from serious mental illnesses; the vast majority, or 78 percent, do not.
A 2016 research study concluded that the large majority of people with mental disorders do not engage in violence against others. That most violent behavior is due to factors other than mental illness. As one researcher stated:
“If you focus on mental illness, all you get is a huge number of false positives.
States with the largest increases in gun ownership also have the largest drops in violent crimes.
Thirty-one states now have such laws—called “shall-issue” laws. These laws allow adults the right to carry concealed handguns if they do not have a criminal record or a history of significant mental illness.
Murder rates decline when either more women or more men carry concealed handguns. Specifically, a gun represents a much larger change in a woman’s ability to defend herself than it does for a man.
An additional woman carrying a concealed handgun reduces the murder rate for women by about 3 to 4 times more than an additional man carrying a concealed handgun reduces the murder rate for men.
Switzerland, New Zealand, Finland, and Israel have high gun-ownership rates and low crime rates, while other countries have low gun ownership rates and either low or high crime rates.
The state with the liberals dream of gun control? California. The state with the highest gun crime.
The city with the liberals dream of gun control? Chicago. The city with the highest gun crime.
So it is clear that the solution is not gun control.
The solution is found in the decline of society. This is directly related to removing God’s standards.
It is so incredible to see a Florida Democrat understand that simple solution.
