It is time for our daily dose of liberal hypocrisy so you may want to take a deep breath before reading this lest your blood boil uncontrollably.
There has been a lot of talk in conservative circles about Facebook censorship of right leaning pages and posts. While I concede that Facebook is a private (non-governmental) company that can do whatever it wants, just as I can can choose not to use it, there is a point at which their hypocrisy in implementing their “standards” unequally has crossed the line.
Conservative sites have been imploring their readers to go directly to their sites instead of relying on Facebook to put news in their feeds. Even if you “like” and “follow” a particular news organization, Facebook is very good at making sure you don’t see all of their content, and many right leaning sites insist their content is much more controlled than liberal pages.
The Activist Mommy (mommy to ten kids!), is a conservative Christian blogger. She is an outspoken Christian advocate of family values and homeschooling. She has a lot of supporters, about 550,000 Facebook followers, and a whole lot of haters. With great humor and wit she does not hold back when calling out the left on all sorts of topics from homosexuality to abortion to government overreach. And while disagreeing with her is every person’s right, death threats are certainly not. But not everyone agrees.

Explaining the biblical view on homosexuality does not meet Facebook’s community standards, but wanting to burn a Christian mom alive for her stance against feminism and political correctness does.
Her name is conservative blogger Elizabeth Johnston, but you may know her as “The Activist Mommy,” and a group on Facebook sure has a lot of hate for her, as they have named themselves “I will find The Activist Mommy and burn whoever runs it alive.”
When Johnston reported the group to Facebook for “harassment,” the social media empire said the group with the violent name did not “go against one of [Facebook’s] specific community standards.” According to the Facebook moderator, Johnston needed a photo to prove harassment, not the name of the group.
Needless to say, Johnston is none too thrilled by Facebook’s response, considering that she has been censored by the organization for far less.
“So a page named ‘I Will Find Activist Mommy And Burn Whoever Runs It Alive’ does NOT go against Facebook’s community standards? Hmmm…if that is not targeted violence, nothing is! Facebook is a joke! Share this folks!” Johnston posted on Facebook.
Eventually, the leader of the group issued a disclaimer that they really do not wish to harm “The Activist Mommy.”
“I don’t really want someone to burn her alive. I don’t want to; I don’t want followers to do so, just don’t do it. I don’t condone it,” said the group leader.
The group’s page has since been changed to the much more charitable name “May God make the Activist Mommy spontaneously combust.”
Last year, Facebook suspended Johnston’s popular page temporarily for quoting the book of Leviticus. Apparently, that violated “community standards.”
If Facebook wants to hold their users to standards, that’s fine, but they really should be implemented fairly and equally. Having a bunch of left wing nutjobs arbitrarily deciding what content is and isn’t allowed based on flimsy rules seems pretty weak for a company of this magnitude. Eventually conservatives will be so stifled that they will have to leave Facebook and take their readers with them.
I would hope that this sort of violent talk would violate anyone’s standards, conservative or liberal. But of course we all know that isn’t true. The truth is, many on the left would like to see harm come to the Activist Mommy and anyone else who disagrees with them – that’s how tolerant they really are. It was probably too much to hope that safety would trump a poster’s political affiliation.
Hopefully, the Activist Mommy will have the last laugh as I am sure this decision by Facebook will only lead to her having more followers than ever! I have no affiliation with the page other than that I follow it and enjoy her posts but I encourage you to support and “like” the Activist Mommy today!
