Trump’s Granddaughter is a “Child Star” in China After This Video Presented to President Xi

President Trump and First Lady Melania’s recent visit to China was wildly successful in improving relations with the communist nation. It was clear from the welcome and treatment of President Trump that the Chinese people admire him.

Trump was given the red carpet treatment from the moment he landed in Beijing (unlike Obama’s visit in which he was completely snubbed by the Chinese in 2016). Trump was the first foreign leader allowed to dine in the Forbidden City since the founding of the People’s Republic, a grand gesture by the Chinese. Chinese leaders did not hold back at all at while trying to impress him.

Trump responded in kind when he presented President Xi with the video of his granddaughter, Arabella, speaking and singing in Mandarin. The Chinese people loved it, and it has since gone viral with the Chinese people seeing Arabella as a “child star.” The Chinese people adore little Arabella and you can certainly see why!

“President Trump may not speak Mandarin (and he does say “China” kind of funny), so on his trip to the biog red nation, Trump brought along someone who does — Arabella Rose Kushner, his 6-year-old granddaughter.

During Trump’s meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on Wednesday, when the leaders strolled through the ancient Forbidden City, Trump showed Xi a video of his granddaughter. In it, Arabella greets “Grandpa Xi and Grandma Peng” and then sings several Mandarin ballads. She concludes by reciting an ancient Chinese poem — all in Mandarin.

Watch Arabella sing in the clip below.

China’s Xinhua state news agency circulated the clip and praised Arabella’s Mandarin skills as “A+”.

The Chinese public agreed, according to Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying, Yahoo! News reported.

“As a little ambassador of Chinese-American friendship, Arabella has already received the love of a vast number of Chinese people,” Hua said during a regular press briefing Thursday. “This kind of special arrangement is actually very sweet and warm-hearted. We believe that this has helped to further bring closer the affection and distance between the Chinese and American people.”

Arabella also played a starring role at the state dinner organized by Xi in Trump’s honor at the Great Hall of the People on Thursday night.

The full video, which Trump brought as a gift for Xi, was played on screens in the room, earning her a mention in her grandfather’s toast.

“Our children so often remind us of our shared humanity and true dignity,” Trump, 71, said.

Weibo, China’s Twitter-like platform, was filled with praise for Arabella’s performance Thursday, though it was unclear how many comments related to Trump’s visit had been censored.

“She’s too cute!” users gushed. “Let’s hope that she marries into a Chinese family.”

This isn’t the first time Arabella has made headlines for her A+ Mandarin skills. In April 2017, President Xi visited Mar-a-Lago and Arabella performed a Chinese song to President Xi and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuan.

Arabella is the daughter of Trump’s daughter Ivanka, and Jared Kushner. As parents, the Kushners have made a wise decision having Arabella learn a language that will likely aid her in her future career.  Almost twice as many people in the world speak Mandarin than Spanish and teaching kids to speak Mandarin is a smart way to help them have a leg up in the business world when they grow up.

I love seeing President Trump as the doting grandpa that he is. He has been known to tweet pictures of his grandkids just like any proud grandparent would. So it’s not surprising that the President would jump at the opportunity to share the adorable and impressive video of his adorable granddaughter, Arabella, with the Chinese leader.

Creating that personal connection with foreign leaders is a smart move on Trump’s part, something he seems to be very good at! This aspect of diplomacy is an important part of relationship building with a country like China. With so much at stake between trade agreements and the North Korea situation, any way that Trump can strengthen the relationship between the United States and China is important. I’d say Trump has done a masterful job at building a personal relationship with President Xi (he says they have “great chemistry”) and hopefully that transcends into great political cooperation as well. But it doesn’t surprise me. After all, Trump does know a thing or two about the ‘Art of the Deal’.
