San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said in an NFL news conference that white people “need to feel more uncomfortable” because they have too much privilege.
Popovich held a press conference this week, where he responded to Donald Trump’s condemnation of the national anthem protests. Popovich criticized Trump for his “childishness” and “gratuitous fear mongering”. “Our country is an embarrassment to the world,” he said.
The moron called the United States of America “an embarrassment” and followed that up by saying white people “especially” need to be made “uncomfortable” for any change to be made. Seriously?!
He then began talking about white privilege. “Obviously, race is the elephant in the room, and we all understand that,” he continued. “Unless it is talked about constantly, it’s not going to get better.” But Popovich was just getting started. “There has to be an uncomfortable element in the discourse for anything to change, whether it’s the LGBT community or women’s suffrage, race, it doesn’t matter,” he continued. “People have to be made to feel uncomfortable and especially white people because we’re comfortable. We still have no clue of what being born white means.”
“It’s like you’re at the 50-meter mark in a 100-meter dash,” he explained. “You’ve got that kind of lead … because you were born white.”
[White people] have advantages that are systemically, culturally, psychologically there,” he said. “And they have been built up and cemented for hundreds of years. But many people can’t look at it, it’s too difficult. It can’t be something that is on their plate on a daily basis. People want to hold their position, people want the status quo, people don’t want to give that up. Until it’s given up, it’s not going to be fixed.”
As for his own players, he said, “They have our full support. No matter what they might want to do or not to do, it is important to them to be respected by us, and there is no recrimination no matter what might take place unless it’s ridiculously egregious.”
Let me ‘splain it to you pop’s. YOUR generation was racist. By the time we got to my generation, racism was at an all time low. Now this new generation has been convinced that we are all in a mess again and YOUR generation, in order to hide your own racism, is running with the false “white privilege’ mantra.
I went to a high school in the late 80’s that was 1/3 black, 1/3 Mexican and Portuguese, and 1/3 white, mostly cowboys. We had very few racial issues. VERY FEW! We all got along.
And “women’s suffrage’????? Women’s suffrage in the United States, the legal right of women to vote was established over the course of several decades, first in various states and localities, sometimes on a limited basis, and then nationally in 1920. On August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, enfranchising all American women and declaring that they, like men, deserve all the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
I know you are a tired old man, but long before you were born, women, NATIONALLY, were given the right to vote. You have lost your mind. There are ZERO women’s suffrage issues in the USA.
There is a major Veterans’ weekend NFL Football Boycott Planned. Click here for details.
We will be not be watching or listening to NFL games on November 12th in solidarity with veterans around the country, as football players have continued to disrespect the national anthem, the American flag, and everything our nation stands for.
