Hollywood Blew It! Emmys Experience a 50% Drop in Viewership from Boycott!

The Emmys decided to go full out anti-Trump and in return, Americans delivered the lowest ratings to the show in history.

The historic all-time-low viewership follows a grim trend for the self-congratulatory award show.

According to Newsweek, the show is experiencing a steep 50% drop in viewership.

Americans delivered the lowest ratings to the show in history. According to TV Line:

CBS’ broadcast of the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards is looking at a new all-time low, at least in the preliminary ratings. Scoring an 8.2/14 in metered market ratings, the show was down a tick from the 8.4/13 that ABC and Jimmy Kimmel woke up to a year ago. (The 2016 kudoscast went on to post 11.3 million total viewers and a 2.8 demo rating, which at the time marked all-time lows.)

The numbers must be a stinging blow to producers of the show. They took a gamble and seem to have lost severely. I imagine that next year’s show will cost rather than make them money.

President Trump took to Twitter to mock the passé show.

The Emmys boycott went viral less than 10 minutes into the awards show after they began an all night attack on the President and after 3 years of a ratings freefall, the show very well could have doomed itself.

Last year, the Emmys were watched by an average of 11.3 million viewers, down from 17 million in 2013.

Twitter went wild, not long after the show started, with many saying that was the last straw.

When will these guys learn to not offend half of their audience?

Calls for a final, and permanent boycott almost broke Twitter.

The Emmys show wasted no time getting to their anti-Trump rage fest.

Within seconds, host Stephen Colbert, singing an opening number themed around how seemingly out of control world events are, took a few soft jabs at President Trump.

Moments later, Colbert sang about the virtues of television, at one point delivering the line, “Even treason’s better on TV,” as an image flashed of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

The treason accusation came not even five minutes into the Emmys.

But then Julia-Louis Dreyfus quickly upped the ante, joining in and singing, “Imagine if your president wasn’t loved by Nazis.”

Once the monologue actually began, Colbert dedicated almost five minutes to mocking Trump.

The stage was set, politics pervaded almost the entirety of the broadcast.

The opening climaxed with former White House spokesman Sean Spicer joking about the crowd size of the event, parodying his own comments about Trump’s inauguration crowd size.

The entire Emmys show continued to excoriate the President.

My friend, Scott Ryan Pressler, won the Emmys tweet of the evening. #JustSayin’

I haven’t watched in years, they will never get me back, and I love awards shows.
