A man who had foreseen that he would marry his preschool sweetheart has just proved himself to be a seer, as he has now tied the knot with her years later, just like he’d sworn.
Laura Scheel and Matt Grodsky, of Phoenix, Arizona, were wed back in December. The preschool sweethearts revealed their story in their Instagram post that was published just last week.
‘One of my very first memories is of being 3 years old and standing up in front of my preschool class, declaring that I would marry her someday. As kids, Laura taught me how to ride the swings, draw rolling hills, and the “right way” to properly eat string cheese.’
Matt also remembered how he and Laura would play hide-and-go-seek together, play the old ‘can’t catch me’ and run after each other on the playground, and would stay awake even though it was nap time.
‘I was enamored with Laura as a child, and I still am to this day,’ the stricken husband said of his wife, also adding that in preschool, he had devoted most of his time to impressing his crush.
‘Lion King was what all the kids were into back then so we would spend most of our time reciting lines from the movie on the playground. I remember trying to impress her during a Cinco De Mayo celebration at the preschool where we were trying to break open a piñata. Fortunately, I was the kid who managed to do it and I assume it got her attention.’
Yet even with their strong union as children, the pair eventually fell out with each other when they ended up attending different elementary schools. While each of their families would attempt to stay in touch on occasion by sending greeting cards, Matt and Laura didn’t really see each other face to face again until they were both in high school. It was there that their connection rapidly grew once more.
It was during their high school days that a common friend reconnected them ‘by happenstance’, Matt said, indicating that this was when their relationship truly started to flourish – although not without some serious resignation on the part of Laura, who had confessed that she was ‘hesitant’ to go out the Matt.
However she sooner or later yielded – and within two weeks, the couple were formally boyfriend and girlfriend – a title they would carry with the throughout their high school years, into college, and further into their lives.
‘We even stuck together long-distance while attending colleges in different states. We remained a resilient couple until May 23rd, 2015 when I decided to stay true to my preschool pledge and make Laura my wife.’
And in a marvelous tribute to the spot where they both met, Matt chose that spot to pop the question to the love of his life, and now wife. The couple finished off the 2016 year as newly minted husband and wife, which at last, turned Matt’s promise and prediction into a reality.
