Crime Drops As THIS Increases! Firearm Lovers Will Be Happy

The Crime Prevention Research Center is a good outlet for firearm statistics and crimes. In a recent report, they found that between 2007 and 2015 in an almost 10 year period the percentage of those adults who have a concealed carry permit has increased an exponential 190 percent while violent crime is fallen close to 18 percent.

2016 and 2017 were not counted in the report because 2015 was the last full year that criminal data was available. The report read the following,

from 2007 to 2015 the murder rates fell from 5.6 [per 100,000] to 4.9 per 100,000. This represents a 12.5% drop. At the same time, overall violent crime fell by 18 percent.” And again, these drops are coinciding with a 190% increase in the percentage of adults with permits.”

The report also showed that close to 1.83 million people had concealed carry permits in the year 2016. However, in the previous year 2015, there were 1.73 million concealed carry permit owners. This statistic indicates that 6.53 percent of American citizens have concealed carry permits. That is a lot of people. A number that is even larger than that indicates there may even be more people who have them. The report said,

“outside the restrictive states of California and New York, about 8% of the adult population has a permit.”

Close to 11 separate states have over 10 percent of their adult population possessing a carry permit. In Alabama close to 20 percent of people have permits and in Indiana, they are shortly behind with 15.8 percent of age appropriate adults carrying.

CPRC observed the following,

Regression estimates show a significant association between increased permit ownership and drops in murder and violent crime rates. Each one percentage point increase in rates of permit-holding is associated with a roughly 2.5 percent drop in the murder rate. This holds true even after accounting for incarceration rates, the number of police per capita, and other demographics.”

Basically, the report proved that without exception more access to firearms and concealed carry permits means less murder. I think that is something that everyone can get behind. Even Larry Keene who is the senior vice president as well as general counsel for the National Shooting Sports Foundation defended this new information when he told media outlets the following,

“It puts the lie to the myth promulgated by anti-gun individuals that somehow more law-abiding citizens carrying guns will lead to more crime. In fact, quite the opposite is the case. More law-abiding citizens own firearms for self-protection, and crime continues to decline.”

Executive Director of Gun Owners of America Larry Pratt defended all gun owners from the stupid narrative that they are eager to use their firearm the minute things go haywire. He told a reporter for The Washington Times the following,

“The citizen concealed carrier I don’t think ever forgets the fact that he’s a citizen on display, and he knows that he’s representative of a group of people. The last thing a concealed carrier wants to do is get into a situation where they have to use the gun. Even if it were a legitimate use, they know just what kind of horrible mess their life will become once they use that gun.”

It isn’t just concealed carry permits that are rising in popularity. Just the idea of owning is rising in popularity as well. In a 2000 Gallup poll results indicated that close to 35 percent of Americans believed owning a gun would make home ownership safer. Whereas 14 years later in 2014 close to 63 percent of those polled felt gun ownership made them safer.

Pew Research reported in December of 2014 that 52 percent of people polled believed it was a necessity to defend individual’s right to bare arms whereas only 46 percent felt it was important to increase gun control. The Washington Times also reported on this issue stating,

NCIS background checks increased from 11.2 million to 21 million between 2007 and 2014, according to the report, and the sale of guns has skyrocketed over the last two years. About 14 million guns were sold between 2008 and 2011, while over 20 million were sold between 2012 and 2013, and about a quarter were sold to first-time buyers, Mr. Keene said. Between 1999 and 2007 the number of permits increased by about 240,000 per year. But in the next four years, during Mr. Obama’s first term in the White House, the number of new permits issued jumped to 850,000 per year. From 2011 to 2013, the number increased by 1.5 million, rising to 1.7 million last year, according to the report.”

This isn’t just a meeting of the minds. The world is becoming increasingly dangerous and we need our second amendment rights to protect us. We are seeing an increase in terrorist attacks perpetrated by groups like the Taliban and ISIS as well as a lot of domestic terrorists. People feel safer when they have a gun and who can blame them. This is exactly why these statistics are increasing.
