Despite all the chaos in Washington, D.C. this past week, the President is forging ahead and cracking down on illegal immigration. Yet another campaign promise fulfilled. Immigration law enforcement officers teamed up with agents to detain and arrest 39 members of the MS-13 gang, a hyper-violent criminal gang. 12 of those 39 members had come into the country as unaccompanied minors and 3 had entered the United States under Special Immigrant Juvenile Status. An additional 6 people were arrested during the operation. Score one for the security of Americans.
It was agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Removal Operations (ERO) as well as Homeland Security Investigations (HIS) agents that worked together to complete this job. The operation was conducted under the auspices of the Department of Homeland Security’s Transnational Organized Crime Initiative and was named ‘Operation Matador’.
A total of 45 gang members were arrested for their complicity in the operation that lasted 30 days. Two Surenos were arrested, one member of the 18th Street Gang, one Latin King, one with Patria, and one with the Los Ninos Malos.
Special Agent in Charge of HIS New York Angel M. Melendez said the following in a written statement on the operation,
“Transnational gangs like MS-13 bring nothing but violence and conflict to our communities and their presence will not be tolerated. Their vicious criminal activities present an ongoing challenge for law enforcement everywhere. It is with the efforts of our federal partners under DHS and the incredible assistance provided by our local law enforcement partnerships with Suffolk County and Nassau County Police Departments that we will continue to dismantle these gangs piece by piece to enhance the safety and security of our communities.”
20 of those members who were arrested had prior criminal records. Those charges on their records include assault and weapons-related charges. Not shocking for gang members. One of them even had a final order of removal from a federal immigration judge and a larceny conviction. 30 of them came from Suffolk County. A county known for releasing criminal illegal aliens from jail despite immigration orders for removal being placed on them.
Below are other gang members of significance who were arrested and their associated crimes,
- An El Salvadoran national who was arrested in Suffolk County who had a former felony assault.
- A Honduran national arrested on a charge of menacing with a weapon and disorderly conduct, fighting as well as violent behavior on his record.
- A Mexican national arrested for a felony possession of a weapon, carrying a loaded weapon as well as misdemeanor menacing with a weapon charge.
- Another Honduran national arrested in a nearby Nassau County with a former conviction of criminal possession of a weapon on his record.
- Another El Salvadoran national arrested in the same location with a criminal record that includes felony attempted assault, disorderly conduct as well as a misdemeanor harassment.
- Finally, an El Salvadoran national arrested with a prior felony charge of criminal possession of a loaded firearm.
New York ERO Field Office Director Thomas R. Decker said the following in a statement as well,
“These individuals are members of a violent street gang actively wreaking havoc in the community. This unified effort is about keeping New York citizens safe. ERO and HSI, along with our law enforcement partners, face no limitations in the apprehension and dismantling of transnational criminal organizations. We will not rest until our communities are safer and individuals like these are brought to justice.”
The MS-13 gang is one of barbarians. Police from Long Island, New York identified bodies back in April of heavily mutilated individuals who had been murdered so horrifically they could only be identified through tattoos. Back in July of 2013, members of MS-13 had been convicted on the charges of armed robberies, firearms offenses, as well as, capital murders. FBI officials noted that MS-13 gangs were active in 42 separate states where their group numbers were between 6,000 to 10,000.
Houston, Texas has been greatly adversely affected by MS-13 crime. In April, Governor Greg Abbott announced they would be creating the Texas Anti-Gang Task Force whose focus would be on targeting criminal illegal aliens for detention and deportation to help aid in getting rid of MS-13 violence. In doing so they would also be creating a technical operations center. This development is not surprising considering the FBI has placed Houston on the list as one of the five cities with the largest MS-13 presence.
With President Trump in office, Our streets are becoming safer, and Americans can sleep more peacefully at night. Who can complain about that?
