VOTD: WARNING! BUNGEE JUMPING GONE WRONG! Bungee Cords can and do Break
Who wants to bungee jump here?!
“It is believed that the rope she used for the jump was too long.” NO SH*T on that!
The woman was unable to move and could only open her eyes in the seconds after the accident as witnesses called for help.
Bungee jumping is one of the most spectacular extreme and gravity-defying sports that require courage, experience, physical and mental strength and a bit of will. Bungee jumping is an extreme sport that scares even the brave indeed.
With things that could go wrong including the rope snapping or being too long, it’s a terrifying prospect. A viral video has shown the horrifying moment when one woman felt the true effects of the dangers of the activity. Due to safety checks failing, the bungee jumper is seen to slam into the ground just moments after leaping from a bridge into the river below.
The poor woman, filmed in Bolivia, attempted a 50ft jump from a bridge into the river. As she stands on the top of the bridge, a man appears to do safety checks before she makes the leap of faith. However, as after she jumps off, the rope appears to be too long as she hits the ankle-deep water heavily. She appears motionless in the water and appears unable to move as witnesses jumped into the river to help her.
The woman had posed for photographs standing on the bridge, and is seen in video footage looking excited as organisers started a countdown before she takes the plunge. The terrifying moment was recorded on the La Negra 2 bridge on the road between Santa Cruz and Cocabamba, in central Bolivia. Shyrleny Ribera, was in the area with her family and witnessed what happened and heard the woman loudly thud onto the shallow river bed.
She said: “We were in the area and approached there to look at it, as it is not very common to see this kind of sport in the area. “We saw the lady jumping and for unknown reasons she ended up crashing against the river ground, as it was not deep enough.”
People raced to help and the woman recording can be heard shouting down to them: “Is she ok? I do not think she is fine.” Miss Ribera said to local media that she and her family went to the nearest town to call an ambulance, as the young woman was not able to move on her own and she only could open and close her eyes.
“It was so sad to see a young woman agonising in this way,” she said. “They should have taken more care to do this kind of risky activities.”
Andean Trek, the company that organised this bungee jumping experience, transferred the young woman to a private clinic and said she was discharged a few days later. Oscar Sandoval, the director of the company, said: “The lady jumped from a 15-metre (50-foot) bridge.
“The company is paying the medical bills.
“She does not have fractures, according to the first analysis, but we are waiting the secondary analysis that are deeper”. He added: “It was a human mistake, somebody did something wrong. We are checking the videos in order to know who or what released the brake of the rope.”
“It is the first time something like this has happened to us, we have a lot of years of experience.”
Bungee jumping is fun as hell! but people I hope we learned something it here. SAFETY FIRST!
