Supreme Court Justice Gorsuch on His First Day: The Constitution Doesn’t Change!

When President Trump nominated a justice to the Supreme Court, he wanted an originalist, someone who would take the place of the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s place. He wanted a ‘straight shooter’ and would restore confidence in the rule of the law. He wanted Judge Neil Gorsuch.

On his first day on the job, it looks like President got just that! Justice Neil Gorsuch made it known, he is going to abide by the law of the land, the Constitution. Even though it was only Justice Gorsuch’s first day on the job, he did EXACTLY what we expected him to do. Hold the line and defend the Constitution.

It was the first time since Justice Antonin Scalia’s death that the Supreme Court had its full complement of nine justices, five conservatives and four liberals for arguments. Justice Gorsuch is a welcoming sight for Conservatives on the bench. His role will be an important and a decisive one on many important issues involving gun rights, religious freedom, and immigration. Conservatives are blessed to have Justice Gorsuch on the Supreme Court at this moment in history to uphold and defend the Constitution.

H/T Western Journalism:

Freshly sworn in Justice Neil Gorsuch was no wallflower during his first day hearing oral arguments at the Supreme Court Monday, questioning every attorney who appeared before the bench with the notable exception of one.
Gorsuch waited until after five of his fellow justices asked questions during the first of three cases of the day, which involved a federal employment discrimination issue.
When the plaintiff’s attorney Christopher Landau contended, “We’re not asking the court to break any new [legal] ground,” without missing a beat Gorsuch interjected, “No, just to continue to make it up,” the Washington Examiner reported.

The high court heard two other cases Monday, including one involving a zoning ordinance argued by former Obama administration solicitor general Neal Katyal.

Gorsuch had no questions for Katyal, who was one of the highest profile Democrats to support the justice’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

Katyal wrote a op-ed for the New York Times entitled, “Why Liberals Should Back Neil Gorsuch,” shortly after President Donald Trump made his announcement in January.

In the piece, the attorney argued that Gorsuch is a straight shooter, who does not play favorites and “would help restore confidence in the rule of law.”

The two men served together on a federal court rules committee prior to Gorsuch’s elevation to the Supreme Court.

During his confirmation, Gorsuch, a self-proclaimed originalist (like the late Justice Antonin Scalia), stated, “The Constitution doesn’t change; the world around us changes.”

“Gorsuch delivered his questions and remarks with a persistent smile and drew laughs at times through the courtroom,” according to the Examiner.

After a lengthy round of questioning, he apologized to his fellow justices “for taking up so much time,” before sitting back in his high-backed chair and smiling.

Chief Justice John Roberts welcomed his new colleague to the bench on Monday, wishing the 49-year-old “a long and happy career.”

AMEN! Conservatives and Republicans are excited to see an originalist like Justice Neil Gorsuch on the Supreme Court. Justice Gorsuch will defend the Constitution as it is written. I think we will find, it is an important time in history where especially our religious freedom is being attacked.  I think we will find that many high profile cases dealing with our religious liberty will be decided by one vote, and that vote will be the difference. Which is one significant reason why, in my opinion, many Americans voted for Trump for President, to in fact, ensure the Supreme Court would have an originalist like Justice Neil Gorsuch on the bench to support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

Other high profile cases that are likely to make their way to the Supreme Court soon, in which Gorsuch’s vote may also prove decisive, include Trump’s temporary immigration ban, as well as cases involving gun rights, the religious liberty rights of business owners in relation to same-sex wedding ceremonies, and voter ID laws.  All too many important cases to be decided, that Americans needed a conservative justice like Justice Neil Gorsuch.

Welcome to the Supreme Court, Justice Gorsuch, and like Justice Roberts, we wish you a long and happy career there!
