What happens when we die? It is a question all humans ask at some point in their life and is perhaps the greatest mystery we face as humans.
People have wondered and theorized innumerable possibilities, but nobody can 100% prove what occurs to us after we die because it’s something that is beyond our ability to fully comprehend, bound as we are to time and space. We believe certain events happen based on our religious convictions and reasoning abilities, but we can never really know until we get there.
When a loved one dies — especially if it was unexpected — we tend to look for signs around us to feel like they are still close. It is an extremely comforting practice and helps with the grieving process.
Here’s a mom who was in having a difficult time at her son’s grave with tears streaming down her face and then, she received a ‘sign’ from above.
Sometimes, these signs are much more than a mere coincidence and they truly leave people wondering if their beloved deceased is trying to tell them something. On April 1, Marie Robinson of Waterlooville, England experienced something inexplicable when she went to visit her son’s gravesite.
Three years ago, on April 1, 2014, Robinson’s son Jack died of a brain tumor; he was only four years old. Understandably, it has been a long and difficult grieving process for her and the rest of his family — including his twin brother, Liam.
This year, Robinson planned to visit his grave on the anniversary of his death. Alone in the car before walking to the sacred spot, she remembers speaking out loud, saying, “Jack, please show Mummy a sign.”
As she sat on the ground next to the headstone, Robinson was struggling emotionally with the fact it had been three years since she had lost her little boy. Then something miraculous happened: a tiny robin flew down and landed on her.
“[A] little robin kept flying around me trying to land on me, eventually landing on my foot – he didn’t seem scared at all…he flew over and landed on my hand,” she said. “He kept looking at me directly in my face and at one point he landed on my shoulder and nibbled me a couple of times.”
Aside from the name similarity, robins have a particular significance for the Robinson family — especially the twin boys. “Whenever we’d go out, Jack and [Liam] would go robin spotting so it is something we always associate with him — it was just breathtaking,” she said.
Robinson admits she has noticed an increased interaction with robins in general since Jack’s death, and even posted about sighting them on Facebook in 2014, several months after her son’s passing. She wrote, “Just at my little Jack’s garden and I turn to one side and on the hedge is a sweet little robin watching me.”
She was able to capture this incredible moment on camera and posted it to Facebook with the caption, “Can’t believe what’s just happened, come to see my precious boy Jack — just sat down on ground next to him and this happened. Yes it brought me to tears. Taking it as a sign from Jack.”
There are various opinions of what seeing a robin can mean, but most of them are comforting and reassuring. Needless to say, this is how Marie is taking the sign.
If you believe in animal symbolism, you can probably reflect on many moments in life that you received a ‘sign’ from above. A robin is usally a sign of renewal and spring. It’s a sign of hope, clarity, simplicity and new beginnings.
For Marie, although I can’t imagine losing a child, especially at the young age of four, God sent her a sign from above. The sign was a robin. Knowing that her son, Jack, enjoyed robins, it seems natural then that a robin would be sent to her to express happiness and joy, and maybe even encouraging her it’s a new spring, a new day, and a new beginning. Marie was being sent a ‘sign’ from above to start enjoying life because each day is a gift to cherish, and moving forward things in life will get brighter for Marie and her family.
