Aside from the controversy surrounding the failed GOP healthcare bill the potential investigation into Russian ties with President Trump has made headlines for a few months. Democrats have been on a witch hunt trying to nail President Trump to the cross over alleged ties his campaign and administration has to Russian officials. Despite how much they would like the collusion to be true most Americans know it is not.
Chairman Devin Nunes is head of the House Select Committee on Intelligence and has been called to head the investigation. However, he has refused to open an investigation by calling it a witch hunt. Democrats vilified him after it was found that Nunes had meetings with Trump administration officials on White House grounds over potential surveillance on the Trump campaign.
As a result, Minority Leader Senator Charles Schumer of New York got on the Senate floor and called for Speaker of the House Paul Ryan from Wisconsin to replace Rep. Nunes as House Intelligence Committee chairman.
While on the floor Schumer said the following,
“Chairman Nunes is falling down on the job and seems to be more interested in protecting the president than in seeking the truth. You cannot have the person in charge of an impartial investigation be partial to one side. It’s an inherent contradiction. Without further ado, Speaker Ryan should replace Chairman Nunes.”
Nunes failure to share the surveillance information with his Democratic colleagues on the Intelligence Committee and his former work for the Trump campaign has led prominent Democrats such as Nancy Pelosi to call for his resignation. But that is never going to happen.
What Democrats are really upset about is the fact that the President didn’t do anything wrong. He didn’t do anything illegal. Their attempts at impeachment and to replace him with a Democrat are never going to work. Yet they continue to look for these openings to try and do that. They only make themselves look like fools in the long run. Along the way they try and castigate any Republican who so much as shows an inkling of support to the President which is why Schumer called for Ryan to replace Nunes.
Their attempts to divide the Republican Party will ultimately fail as they did in the last election.
