You may not be a Chicago Bears’ fan, but you have to admit Coach “Iron Mike” Ditka is legendary and has always been about champions. He is only one of 3 coaches to ever win a championship both as a player and a coach for the same team. He is also a 3-time Super Bowl Champion – once as a player, once as an assistant coach and once as a coach. If you know Ditka, he doesn’t like to mince words.
Since his retirement as a coach, Mike Ditka has worked as a football analyst for NBC, ABC and is currently with ESPN’s Sportcenter. On Friday “Iron Mike” had a few choice words for Colin Kaepernick.
H/T The Guardian:
Hall of Fame coach Mike Ditka has leveled blistering criticism at Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the national anthem, saying he has “no respect” for the San Francisco 49ers quarterback whose protest has sparked a national discussion over racial injustice, inspired dozens of NFL players to follow suit and landed him on the cover of Time magazine.
“I think it’s a problem, anybody who disrespects this country and the flag,” the longtime NFL coach said in a radio interview on KRLD-FM in Dallas. “If they don’t like the country, if they don’t like our flag, get the hell out. That’s what I think.
“I have no respect for Colin Kaepernick. He probably has no respect for me, that’s his choice. My choice is that I like this country, I respect our flag, and I don’t see all the atrocities going on in this country that people say are going on.
“I see opportunities if people want to look for opportunity. Now if they don’t want to look for them, then you can find problems with anything, but this is the land of opportunity because you can be anything you want to be if you work. Now if you don’t work, that’s a different problem.”
AMEN! Coach Ditka gets my respect for that one! He’s right on when it comes to Patriotism and respect. He has more respect in his little pinky than Colin Kaepernick will ever have.
Of course, for those of you who don’t know he could have been “President Ditka” and our country might not be in the current mess it’s in. Ditka thought about running against Obama in 2004, when the Republican seat for Senate in Illinois was vacated by Peter Fitgerald. Ditka didn’t seek the seat, which allowed Allen Keyes to run against the “community organizer” Barack Obama. After that, it’s history.
What did Ditka have to say about that?
“Biggest mistake I’ve ever made,” he told the Dickinson Press in 2013. “Not that I would have won, but I probably would have and he wouldn’t be in the White House.”
In March, Ditka called Obama “the worst president we’ve ever had”.
“Barack Obama is a fine man,” he added. “He’s pleasant, he’d be great to play golf with. He’s not a leader.”
As I said, Hall of Famer Mike Ditka recognizes champions and leaders when he sees them. But you don’t have to be a football anaylst to see that Colin Kaepernick and Barack Obama are BOTH losers. They have both been BIG disappointments. Colin Kaepernick is at best a back up QB for the San Francisco 49’ers and Barack Obama is a bench warmer at most, when it comes to leading our country, defending our Constitution and standing up for ALL Americans, especially those who gave their lives.
But Hey, what do I know? Maybe you should hear it from Ditka’s #1 Super Fan:
I can only imagine what might have been if Coach Ditka had been president. God Bless Ditka! Once a champion, always a champion!
