Last Thursday, Governor Pence, Donald Trump’s Republican running mate for Vice President was asked a tough question by 11-year-old, Matthew Schricker at a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina. It’s an honest question and certainly a valid question. I don’t think Pence was expecting such a pointed question from a young boy.
“Good morning, Gov. Pence,” Matthew said. “My name is Matthew, and I’m 11 years old. I’ve been watching the news lately and I’ve been noticing that you’re kind of softening up on Mr. Trump’s policies and words. Is this going to be your role in the administration?”
WOW! What a great question…even for an 11-year-old.
Here’s the video and response from Gov. Pence:
Pence paused as the crowd began to laugh and then asked the boy his name as he repeated it – “MATTHEW!”
“What did you say that I’ve been doing?” Pence said.
Matthew repeats that Pence has been… “you’ve been kind of softening up on his words”.
Pence laughs and says, “Let me tell you, Matthew. …Number one, this boy’s got a future. (crowd applauses) Nicely done.”
“I couldn’t be more proud to stand with Donald Trump, and we are shoulder to shoulder in this campaign my friend, I promise you.”
“What I’ve learned Matthew — and you’ll learn it when you’re governor of North Carolina,(as the crowd laughs) – and I’m not kidding about that — is sometimes things don’t always come out like you mean, right, and Donald Trump and I are absolutely determined to work together. We have different styles you might have noticed that,” Pence said.
Pence adds at the (RNC) convention he said that we nominated someone (Trump) “that is larger than life, known for charisma. So they wanted to kind of balance the ticket.”
Pence went on to say he went on a motorcyle ride last Friday. He was leading the annual Governor’s Ride in Indiana which benefits the Indiana National Guard, when someone posted a picture of “Born to be Mild”.
Pence added, “…But I would tell you. Differences in style, Matthew, should never be confused with differences in conviction.”I will tell you RIGHT NOW!
“Donald Trump has the right vision for America, he has the right policies for America, and I’m going to fight every day to tell his story all across the United States, and I’m going to work at his side to make those ideas into the policies that will make America great again,” he added. “I promise you my friend. Good job! You’re a good guy!”
11-year-old, Matthew Schricker was immediately sought after by the press after asking the question. Here’s his response to CNN on his reason for the question: “… I wasn’t trying to be hostile…trying to accuse him of anything. I was just — I’m full on with the Trump campaign.” Matthew said he wanted to make sure that the GOP vice presidential nominee was “totally loyal to Mr. Trump and the Republican Party.”
Here’s the video:
Matthew, I may not be “full on the Trump campaign” but I can certainly agree with you on this:
“I really think that listening to a few bad words coming out of Donald Trump is a lot better than people getting blown up by terrorists, people getting burned alive, people (getting their) heads chopped off, and people getting drowned.”
I also agree with you and your mother on this one:
“Honestly when it comes to confronting a terrorist…I would rather have Trump confronting than Hillary Clinton.” Got THAT right! Rock on Matthew!
