I’ve never been a mail carrier nor have I ever delivered mail in Houston. Houston evidently leads the nation in dog bites on employees, according to the United States Postal Service (USPS). Either way, I don’t think that would be grounds to pepper spray puppies. They’re PUPPIES for crying out loud!
The Cruz family has three little dogs. While behind a closed gate, the mailman walked up to the fence and did the unthinkable. Luckily, the Cruz family had a security camera on the front porch, which captured some shocking footage.
The video shows the man walking up and spraying the three dogs with pepper spray. He carries the pepper spray on him in case of an emergency, like if a dog were actually trying to attack him.
Jose Cruz was very upset by what happened and commented, saying, “They’re little dogs behind the fence. They don’t deserve that. Just put the mail in and go to the next house.”
Linda Cruz went to the Post Office to complain about the incident. They said they would take care of it but never even took her name or address. Without any actions being taken, the Cruz family went to Eyewitness News, hoping to get a response. They remain gracious and don’t want the worker to even be fired, but they do want an apology for what happened. They also hope things like this won’t happen in the future.
Regarding the status of the letter carrier, as this is a personnel issue, the Postal Service is not at liberty to comment.”
If you watched the video, you would have noticed at least these 3 things: 1) the three little dogs looked like they were jumping for joy, even though they were barking, 2) the dogs were barely big enough to even reach the mailbox, let alone the mailman, as they were BEHIND a iron rod fence, and 3) the mailman was not being attacked, NOR was there ANY emergency that would cause him to pull out the pepper spray in defense.
I could see if the dogs were attacking him or if he felt threatened by dogs, especially if they were Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Dobermans, or even German Shepherds, but these dogs were not ANY of those breeds. In addition, the mailman, didn’t just spray them once, but sprayed them repeatedly. In fact, the owners stated, the puppies couldn’t open their eyes for HOURS after the event occurred and were in pain.
Unbelievable! Did he really have to pepper spray the dogs or was that uncalled for?
What do YOU think should have happened? Do you think the postal worker should have to apologize personally to the family?
Let’s hear your comments.
