Political correctness, microaggression, and evil cultural appropriation has invaded school cafeterias from kindergarten to college and Michelle Obama is a huge contributor!
For those that do not know, cultural appropriation is when you use something from a culture that is not yours.
From what I understand, especially in school, it is considered a microaggression and stealing!
But the huge sin comes in when you steal, then modify cultural food! School cafeterias are doing that now!
The United States as been guilty of this for a long time and pizza is an excellent example. Authentic Italian pizza, did not belong to us. We stole it!
But we did not just steal it… we also added cheese!! We modified it! That was microaggression and basically racist in the process! It is also done now in school cafeterias! Oh the humanity!
Sushi is also a victim of this phenomenon in school cafeterias!
Sushi originated in China! It was actually a process where fish was preserved in rice, and the rice was thrown away!
Japan appropriated it and quit tossing the rice.
Now we serve sushi in the U.S., not quite like Japan does today, close!
But Japanese student Tomoyo Joshi seems to not quite get that…she is furious that the Oberlin College in Ohio messed up the sushi, not quite remembering that Japan messed it up too:
“So if people not from that heritage take food, modify it and serve it as ‘authentic,’ it is appropriative.”
The HuffPo reports:
Complaints against ‘Bon Appétit,’ the college’s food management company, include serving undercooked sushi rice, and cooked sushi fish instead of raw; offering General Tso’s chicken that was steamed, not fried; selling Vietnamese banh mi with pulled pork rather than grilled and using ciabatta instead of traditional French bread.
“The undercooked rice and lack of fresh fish is disrespectful,” scorned Japanese student Tomoyo Joshi of the sushi bar, decrying the counter as “a culturally appropriative sustenance system.”
“When you’re cooking a country’s dish for other people, including ones who have never tried the original dish before, you’re also representing the meaning of the dish as well as its culture,” she told the newspaper. “So if people not from that heritage take food, modify it and serve it as ‘authentic,’ it is appropriative.”
The whole thing is rather silly, but I am sure that Michelle Obama’s school lunch menu HAS to be at blame for a lot of this.
It just makes common sense as she is the huge offender of changing the school menus.
When you try to sanitize the food from all unhealthiness, you end up with items like pulled pork rather than grilled, ciabatta instead of French bread, and COOKED sushi….
…and just who is General Tso anyway? I am sure Michelle Obama was the one who said to steam his chicken instead of frying it!
Ay! Yi! Yi! our country is in trouble!!!! Robby Soave has a great article on this at the Daily Beast!
I think she summed it up well:
Students have every right to make unreasonable demands—even if those demands are as ridiculous as racially-sensitive banh mi sandwhiches and racially-segregated safe spaces. But they deserve every drop of criticism they get in return.
