A third-grader at Gorsuch West Elementary in Lancaster, OH said a substitute teacher forced her to put away her Bible during free reading time.
The girl came home crying because she was stopped from reading her Bible.
Audra Palmer, the girl’s mother, told WKYC: “The teacher come through and she was inspecting everybody’s books, and she said to put your book away and get out a different book.”
Then the school lied about the situation. They tried to play the game of cover up. Feel free to call them: (740) 687-7332
The school released this statement:
“The student was asked to put her book away while the lesson was going on. The book happened to be the Bible. The substitute had no problem with the young lady reading the Bible earlier in the day during free reading time.”
Well, that is obviously a lie. Don’t give me that nonsense! Kids don’t get upset when they are just asked to put books away! They do not make up phrases like – “get out a different book”! I am sorry Gorsuch, our schools have LOTS of priors. I do not believe you!
What happened to taking responsibility for your own actions? Our schools are supposed to be setting an example.
The response should have been: “A mistake was made, we are dealing with it. We will learn from it and try not to make it again. This was an inexperienced teacher and she now understands the mistake!”
Wouldn’t that have made things so much simpler?
You know the drill. This is not acceptable. The lies are not acceptable. The mistake of this teacher could have been learned from.
