The Texas Republican Party just made a very important and very “Texas” announcement.
Texas Republicans can both open and conceal carry at their state convention in May.
Boy will this get the gun grabbers upset!! Oh well! Texas supports the Second Amendment!
C.J. Grisham the leader of Open Carry Texas praised the announcement in a statement to the Dallas Morning News:
“The bottom line is there is no place where you cannot be the target of criminal activity…since there’s no such thing to a safe place, there should be no place where you don’t have a right to a self-defense.”
After an overwhelming victory November 2014, the Republican side of the isle has been on a strong run to continue to push for conservative Texas values and Open Carry was at the forefront.
January of this year, the Texas Open Carry law went into effect.
During his first State of the State Address from the Texas Capitol, Governor Abbott made it clear that he would sign Open carry for Texas residents, making it the 45th state to normalize the practice.
“Let me briefly follow up on a word I mentioned a moment ago — liberty,” Abbott said, “In a single word, it encapsulates what this country stands for, what Texas symbolizes. I will expand liberty in Texas by signing a law that makes Texas the 45th state to allow open carry.
…and Texas won!
The next step for Texas is full Constitutional Carry.
There was quite a debate in Texas as to whether the law should have included a license, or be a true Constitutional Carry that requires no license.
While most would have prefered a true Constitutional Carry, most recognized licensed Open carry as a huge step that would eventually lead to removing the licensed restriction.
Many on the left said this would be a catastrophe!
In fact, as we reported here at JoeForAmerica, shortly after the passage of the bill:
Every liberal group within earshot had the same predictions for Texas when the State decided to approve open carry gun permits.
People would panic, bar fights would be shoot-outs, the sky would fall – etc.
Well, guess what? Nada.
Law enforcers statewide had anticipated being overwhelmed by 911 calls from Texans reporting others openly carrying holstered handguns, but the phone lines haven’t been even close to slightly busy.
That’s two more calls than have been logged by the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department.
“We do not have anything interesting to report,” Cpl. Tracey Knight, spokeswoman for the Fort Worth Police Department, said. “Two calls so far, no issues. We have no concerns and we have had no problems.““As we predicted, the passage of the open carry law has been a real nonevent,” said C.J. Grisham, president of Open Carry Texas.
Worry much Liberals? Simple. The state with the most stringent Brady Gun Laws, California, has the worst gun crime problems.
Two buildings. One says, “No Guns!”, one says, “We’re Packin'” You just ask yourself which building a thug will choose!
“States with the largest increases in gun ownership also have the largest drops in violent crimes. Thirty-one states now have such laws—called “shall-issue” laws. These laws allow adults the right to carry concealed handguns if they do not have a criminal record or a history of significant mental illness.”
Gun control expert, John Lott, author of More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws debunks myths that banning handguns reduce crime.
