General David Petraeus played fast and loose with some classified information. He was charged and pled guilty in a plea agreement and lost his job. He also lost his reputation. He was once mentioned as a Presidential candidate, that’s long gone. And now he may find that the Obama administration is going to reduce his rank in retirement.
The Pentagon is considering retroactively demoting retired Gen. David Petraeus after he admitted to giving classified information to his biographer and mistress while he was still in uniform, three people with knowledge of the matter told The Daily Beast.
The decision now rests with Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, who is said to be willing to consider overruling an earlier recommendation by the Army that Petraeus not have his rank reduced.
There are some financial penalties involved, but that won’t make a dent in Petraeus’ portfolio. As you’ll recall, his mistress got access to some classified information in his possession.
To be clear, I have no problem with Petraeus’ reputation being ruined because of an affair and I have no issue with him losing rank. I would have been fine with him going to prison and losing his Army retirement over what he did.
In other news, Hillary Clinton, who had top secret documents on an unsecured private server to avoid FOIA regulations and whose husband, a former President, is rumored to have slept with well over 1,000 ladies (?) since their marriage, may be our next President.
If Democrats didn’t have double standards they wouldn’t have any.
