President Ted Cruz?

Maybe.  Just maybe.  Ted Cruz just got some really good news six weeks before the Iowa caucuses.  Nationally he’s just four points behind Donald Trump, an eight point pickup in three weeks.

15-1222 Ted1

The latest Q poll has Trump at 28% and Cruz at 24% and that’s within the margin of error for the poll.  Rubio and Carson are both losing ground, dropping five and six points respectively.  Everybody else is gone.  To be fair, the poll was conducted before Lindsay Graham dropped out of the race and it’s unknown who his supporter will jump to.  (“Supporter” is not a typo.)

I think the nominee will be Ted Cruz, and here’s one reason why.

That group did meet and Cruz is their candidate.  The plus for Cruz is that he will end up getting the endorsement from at least 75% of the organizations in that group and the others, many of whom support Marco Rubio, can’t endorse anybody else.  That will shut down the news cycle for all but Cruz and Trump.

Look for the Republican nomination to firm up by the time the Carolinas are voting.
