Follow the Money…. Wait – we can’t.

Would you be shocked if you heard that the Obama administration gave 16 states and the District of Columbia almost $5 billion and they don’t know where the money was spent?

Yeah, we wouldn’t be shocked either.

The single most frightening thing about that video isn’t the $5 billion.  In the world of federal spending that’s chump change.  The scary part is the repeated line that “Republicans have to come up with a replacement.”  And that line is offered by Democrats at every turn with no pushback from any Republicans.  Not a word about getting the government out of health insurance and healthcare completely (see Medicare and Medicaid) or the free market.

With respect to the money

… the GAO report found that so far, just $1.4 billion of that has been spent on IT projects, and a total of $3 billion has been “spent or drawn down,” though not all the spending is detailed.

That, then, leaves at least $1.6 billion unaccounted for.

Three states actually returned some of the money they were given by Barack.  A grand total of $1 million was returned.  Just enough to pay for the Obama motorcade in Paris at the recent “environmental summit.”

Never fear though, the Obama administration is on top of things.

A representative for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services insisted that if any funds are misallocated the CMS “will work to recover the funds using remedies available under law and regulation.”

“To safeguard taxpayer funds, HHS has also put in place additional program integrity regulations and has implemented, or is in the process of implementing, the GAO’s recommendations,” said HHS senior adviser Meaghan Smith.

Honest, the check is in the mail, I’ve never loved anybody like I love you, and really honey I’d never, ever …

Oh well.  It’s what we’ve come to expect from the Wild Bunch.
